When we received an urgent plea from the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) to help out with some of the overcrowded shelters in NC that were affected by Hurricane Matthew in October, we knew we had to help. We took in 15 animals that had to be moved so room could be made for animals that were displaced from the disaster. All will spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccines and microchipped before they leave our shelter. Please note, we do not have much background history on these pets and do not guarantee housebreaking.
12-19-16 Lil Joe sadly came up to us with heartworms. Treatment for that is no fun, especially for dogs like Lil Joe who love to run around and play. Its a tough treatment and its expensive....many shelters would not treat a dog with heartworms. He is quite the escape artist so a secure yard and a watchful eye are a MUST for this boy. He will scale a fence in no time flat or dig his way out. He loves to go for walks and play with the staff and volunteers. He would love to have an owner who jogs. So far, he does not seem fond of other dogs (we have not cat-tested him yet). Tho Lil Joe wont be in a home for the holidays, we're hopeful 2017 will be the start of a new beginning for this sweet boy. An active family with kids 8+ would be great.
Joe has completed his treatment for heartworms. He is now available for adoption! yay!
*Per JSAC policy, puppies and kittens under 6 months will not be adopted to families with children under the age of 6 years.
