Ruby is a stunning 2 year old Plott Hound mix weighing around 65 lbs who loves the sunshine and she loves her people! She is so friendly and LOVES her humans: she will completely win you over with her big smile and kisses. She is a fabulous companion dog and would be very happy as an only dog as long as she gets plenty of time with her family. She considers herself to be a big lap dog and she loves nothing more than to provide and receive big snuggles from her humans. She likes to cuddle up to her people and inch her way closer and closer until she’s right on top of you. She is easy to train, and is very receptive to correction if it is ever needed. She does well on a leash too, as she likes to slow down and smell the roses on her walks. She is good with cats, and she would be an excellent walking and companion partner for her new family.

Ruby is healthy, up-to-date on vetting, spayed, and micro-chipped. She has tested negative for heartworms and is current on preventatives. She is being fostered in Madison, Alabama. If you'd like to learn more about this gorgeous girl, please fill out an application at or email with any questions. The application is not binding, it is simply how we start the conversation!

About Friends of Rescue - Portland, ME

About Our Rescue Group...

Friends of Rescue is a certified 501(c)(3) organization formed in 2009, consisting of volunteers who are devoted to saving shelter animals that are in danger of euthanasia. Southern shelters have a constant overflow of dogs and cats, little funding, and limited space. Once the animals arrive at the shelter, they have very little time. It is our goal to help save these adoptable animals and find loving individuals/families who will provide committed, FORever homes. We are NOT professional trainers or animal behaviorists; simply volunteers who are trying to save these animals from euthanasia. Each animal in our program is in a foster home and receives all age-appropriate vetting while in our care.

Our Adoption Process...

We have many wonderful dogs looking for homes! Our dogs are mainly fostered in one of our many experienced foster homes. All of our animals receive rabies vaccine, distemper/parvo vaccine, bordatella, microchip, and spay/neuter, as well as being kept current on monthly heartworm and flea prevention. All of our dogs come with complete medical records. Their adoption fee of $450 covers their complete age appropriate vetting, as well as transportation to your area.

Our rescue doesn't have an actual facility in the New England area. Due to this it is not possible to meet them prior to their adoption. Our dogs are brought up to their new owners weekly! Our transport service is certified through the USDA. We have a 14 day no questions asked money back guarantee and the dog can be returned to us if things do not work out. We try hard to make good matches with our animals and their adopters so that everyone has a happy life together! Our foster homes love the animals in their homes and will fully disclose everything about them – some can even Skype or send videos for you to see them in action.

We can provide references from other rescues, previous New England adopters, and our veterinarians if requested.

Go to and click on "Adoption" and then "Applications" to apply for the animal you are interested in adopting.
