Don't hate me because I am beautiful!

Hey my name is Horton and I am pretty darn humble. I am not stuck up at all even though I am so darn good looking. I sit nicely on my bed and love playing with toys. I am not much of a face licker but boy do I love rolling over for belly rubs. Some people say I look like a funny bat dog the way my ears stick up when I am happy and then slide sideways when I am inspecting things. I am soft and sweet and pretty darn cool. Did I mention that already?
I was found as a stray in Truckee so I am familiar with all the potential fun there is to have around town. I am a bit sensitive to loud noises in the shelter and may need a home that is less energetic. I can hang with other dogs and cats too. Like I said..pretty darn cool!

I have tested positive for heartworm but am on medication and doing well. I'm about halfway through my treatment, which can be continued in my new home.

Horton is neutered, current on vaccines and microchipped. His adoption fee is waived, but finding a companion like him is priceless!

About Humane Society of Truckee Tahoe

About Our Shelter...

The Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe is dedicated to saving and improving the lives of pets through adoption, community spay/neuter and humane education programs. Founded in 1994 by a group of committed volunteers, the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe has become the driving force in animal rescue and adoption for the Truckee region. Over time, we have grown from a small grass roots entity to a nationally recognized non-profit organization with seven employees and hundreds of dedicated volunteers.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Our shelter is located at 10961 Stevens Lane in Truckee, and we are open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. We encourage potential adopters to come to the shelter to meet the animal they are interested in adopting during our public hours! Every pet adopted from the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe will be spayed or neutered, vaccinated & microchipped.

Our Adoption Process...

Pet ownership is a serious responsibility. The policy of the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe is to ensure that each person who adopts a pet not only is aware of the responsibility, but that each person is willing and able to accept that responsibility morally, physically and financially. Not every person who desires to own a pet should own a pet.

The adoption application is designed to help us make the best placement possible — the right home for each animal and the right animal for your home. The adoption process takes time because we are committed to giving you all the information and support you need to have a successful adoption. We ask for your patience and cooperation in the joyful process of bringing people and animals together.

TO BE CONSIDERED FOR AN ADOPTION, YOU MUST:
• Be at least 18 years of age.
• Provide a suitable confined area for the animal.
• Understand that the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe reserves the right to deny any adoption.

Our adoption fees are as follows: Dogs (over four months) = $100.00 Puppies (under four months) = $150.00 Cats (over four months) = $75.00 Kittens (under four months) = $100.00 Adoption fees will be due upon completion of adoption. Cash, check or credit cards are gladly accepted.
