Oh, our adorable girl, Gretchen.
This scruffy-faced medium sized Bussels Griffon mix was found with 5 other females (most likely sisters) who were in an owner surrender group at a very rural shelter with no hope for adoption. Rescuers in the Dallas area worked tirelessly to get these adorable girls into rescue before their time was up.
Gretchen was one of those adorable scruffy, underweight and heartworm positive girls who now has the chance at a fabulous life. Gretchen has completed her heartworm treatment, learned that indoor life is fabulous and she is her Foster Mom's shadow, or velcro dog, as she is lovingly referred.
Gretchen is crate trained, house trained and is a loving member of her temporary family. She enjoys lounging on the large dog bed in the sun, when the family is outside working in the yard. She is also a great companion for tv watching, dinner cooking and book reading. Wherever you are, that is where Gretchen wants to be.
Going for a car ride? Drive through Starbucks an option? Quick trip to Home Depot for new plants? Gretchen wants to go along. She loves serving as co-pilot --- has since day 1 of her Freedom Ride. She watched out the windshield as we drove them back into Dallas. She loves the car.
Gretchen is still learning that new experiences are okay. With some treats and nudges of encouragement she can go anywhere. She has picked up on leash training very quickly. She now walks through doorways with a little encouragement and loves meeting new people and new dogs. She just doesn't enjoy her foster mom being too far out of sight.
We are looking for a family for Gretchen who understands that Gretchen may never be a 100% brave dog who can take on the world without some caution. But, with the right human by her side and maybe a sidekick in the home, she will make an amazingly loyal canine companion.
Gretchen does have a tendency to want the human to herself, so she would love to be an only dog. But she currently lives with other dogs and would do well if the other dog had a human of their own. She would love a friend to run zoomies with or who can play chase with her, but in the end, her whole heart belongs to her human.
If you would like to meet Gretchen, please begin the process by filling out an Adoption Application on our website. Gretchen's birthday is approximately September 15, 2015.
