Facts about Edie

  • Breed: Shepherd (Unknown Type)/Labrador Retriever Mix
  • Color: Tricolor (Tan/Brown & Black & White)
  • Age: Adult
  • Size: Large 61-100 lbs (28-45 kg)
  • Sex: Female
After years of severe neglect and cruelty at the hands of her former owner, five-year-old Edie is finally learning what it feels like to be loved and cared for.

She was emaciated, had burn scars on her back, and had just given birth to seven puppies in a backyard when a good samaritan first learned of the situation.

Sadly, Edie had already lost two of her puppies, one of which drowned in a jacuzzi and another who suffocated in the dirt after becoming stuck in the fencing. The already sickly runt didn't make it through its first night following the family's rescue.

After taking care of Edie and her four surviving puppies, the good samaritan managed to re-home all but the new mother, who didn't get along with her temporary foster family's cats. After reaching out to local media outlet KHTS, which featured Edie as the Adoptable Pet of the Week, the good samartian felt she had exhausted all her options and might be forced to take Edie back to the shelter, where she feared the former abusive owner would find her.

KHTS Features Director Melissa Lampert couldn't let that happen, so Madeline's Angels Pet Sanctuary was born. Edie is now under the care of a MAPS foster family, and has transformed into a confident, playful pup. Always ready to snuggle up on the couch or go for a long walk, Edie absolutely adores people, and the only signs of her dark past are the burn scars on her back.

Thanks to the generosity of A Paw Above Dog Training, Edie's adopters will receive FREE training to help her succeed in her new home. You can read more about Edie's story in these KHTS articles:

About Madeline's Angels Pet Sanctuary

About Our Rescue Group...

Madelines Angels Pet Sanctuary (M.A.P.S.) is a foster-based animal rescue in Santa Clarita dedicated to helping find forever homes for pets in need. The organization was founded in 2016 by Melissa Lampert, a lifelong animal lover with over 10 years of experience in the animal care and rescue world, and her family. We firmly believe: "Saving one animal won't change the world, but for that one animal, the world will be forever changed..."

Our Adoption Process...

We ask that potential adopters fill out an adoption application before meeting the pet. If the "Meet and Greet" goes well, then a simple home check is needed before the signing of the adoption contract. Our adoption fee for dogs is $150, and for cats $100. All of our rescues have been seen by a veterinarian, are spayed or neutered, up to date on shots and microchipped. Our fees help us cover those expenses in addition to the daily care of the animals. (Please note that we are currently in the process of becoming an official 501(c)3, so adoption fees are not tax deductible at this time. However, all fees go directly toward the care of the animals.)
