Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Klaus: 8-year-old male chocolate Lab 65 lbs
A handsome fellow, svelte & debonair… a gentleman dog. A bit reserved, but curious & (sadly) seems to be watching for his owners to come collect him. Klaus was surrendered to a local shelter when he showed some snarly behavior towards the kids in his family following the death of his Dalmatian room-mate. He was apparently very attached to his Dalmatian buddy, which may mean he'd be happier w/a canine companion. Our evaluation found no such snarly behavior towards a toddler at the shelter. He also showed no interest in a shelter cat (which ran away when he walked by), and he happily wagged his tail when meeting another shelter dog. He sits, comes, and shakes on command, retrieves the ball, and has a gentle mouth. Klaus does pull a bit when being walked on leash.
What Klaus’ Rescue Rep says: Klaus is just getting over kennel cough. We think he is house-trained. He might be a little barky if he doesn't get what he wants. Structure, exercise and neutral interaction from his humans will help him settle in to his new home. Likely best for a home with big kids only. Klaus is located in Fairfield.
What Klaus’ foster says: This guy is spry and agile; he walks lightly and elegantly! He is obedient… knows 'sit' and we are working on 'stay!' Klaus wants to be close to humans, which is totally understandable after being in a shelter. He gets along fine with our three labs. Klaus absolutely loves to go on walks and pulls the leash a bit but responds to a quick correction. Klaus would do especially well if he can be around his new family a lot (not a loner dog at all) -- he wants to be with his peeps… 2-legged or 4-legged.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
