What I have learned: I am smart and have a very wiggly tail that I use at all times. I am learning good leash manners. I am very alert and everything is so much fun to look at. My ears are perfect for hearing so they perk up. But I cannot meet every dog. I am taking that slow. I am crate-trained and have had no accidents in the house since being with my foster mom. All bathroom business is outside. Eating! Regular meals are good.

Other things I like to do for fun:
Sniff and run in the grass. Be a 40lb lap dog. You will definitely know I am near. And I will climb into your lap.
Nyla bones - wow! I can chew these forever. They keep me busy.
Eat Treats - I waddle right into the kitchen and sit for treats. Peanut butter. A West Paw treat holder with treats. Bully sticks. Hooves with goodies inside. Soft treats. Hard treats. Meat treats. TREATS!

Going for walks and car rides! - I meet so many nice people and other dogs. I am very social but need to get more comfortable with a regular dog life to meet other dogs on leash. I love to run and play. I have met my foster brother and I love to play with him. He is not used to a confident, bouncy girl -- it is still new to him. I am too fast for him too! I do really well in the car. I just sit in the back seat and look straight ahead. So much fun.

Overall Personality: I am confident. I am comfortable in new surroundings and parks but am easily distracted. I am learning not to pull and bark when I cannot play! I do want to meet people and like the attention. I will follow you around. I love to know what you are doing. I like to smile when I am wagging my tail. I love to be pet. I will gaze at you with my big brown eyes!

My favorite color is blue and I love my Supergirl collar. Well, that is what my foster mom says.

Basic commands: Kissing noise….I will lick your face (nah! I will lick your face without any command)! Good Morning = wake up. Outside. Inside. Sit (especially with treat in hand). Get down. No/Stop. Who’s Hungry (dinner)?

About BarkTown Dog Rescue and Sanctuary

About Our Rescue Group...

BarkTown Dog Rescue & Sanctuary, Inc. is an all-volunteer non-profit organization. We envision a compassionate world where all dogs reside in responsible, loving homes.

Dogs in our care are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and receive all appropriate veterinary care and treatment that is needed. The dogs are then placed in nurturing foster homes while they await placement into their permanent home. Our group remains interested in and committed to the welfare of the dogs beyond the adoption process.

Our goal is to help dogs in distress without regard to age, breed, size, or ease of placement. To the extent our finances allow, dogs in the greatest need take priority.

Finally, we strive to work with area shelters and other rescue groups to develop a network of supporters and volunteers to create a better world for homeless dogs.

Our Adoption Process...

The dogs that we have available for adoption have come from shelters where they were found stray or were given up by their owners. These dogs have been let down by humans in the past and may be suffering from physical ailments or abuse. So, by the time these dogs come into our rescue group they have been thru a lot and need a home that can provide them with structure, guidance, love, patience and time to adjust to their new surroundings. Please understand that as dogs transition from shelter to foster home to forever home there can be set backs along the way and they will need your help to adjust.

All dogs that are adopted from BarkTown are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and provided with all necessary veterinary care. However, owning a pet can be expensive and you must be prepared to provide quality food, monthly heartworm medication, monthly flea and tick medication, yearly shots and routine checkups. In addition, you must prepare for accidents and illnesses that may require expensive treatment or surgeries. Many times our dogs have ended up in shelters because their previous owners were not prepared for these expenses and we want to ensure this never happens to them again.

We strive to know and understand each of our dogs so that we can work to find the best match for each dog and adopter.

Our adoption process includes an adoption application, adoption interview, meet and greet, veterinary reference check, personal reference check and home visit prior to making the adoption final. We reserve the right to deny any application that we feel is not a good fit for any of our dogs for any reason. If you are ready to make a commitment to one of our dogs please complete the adoption application and submit for review. The adoption fees vary based on the age of the animal: Age 7 and up is $250, Under age 7 is $275.
