Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Austin is a very sweet 8 month old male border collie mix He is tri-colored with a semi rough coat. He had been abandoned with his family when his humans moved and left all in the back yard to fend for themselves. He is very shy and this may be as a direct result.
BCIN will only consider applicants who are committed to working with him, which MAY be 6 months or longer, to build his confidence and help him overcome his shyness and build his confidence. Austin has been adopted once before and returned after one week because he did not initially warm up to his adopters, even though his full personality was disclosed to them. Supposedly, they were committed to work with him, but they returned him because they didn't have the patience to work with him.. This is not fair to the dog and it is not in his best interest to be bounced around unnecessarily, which was a setback for him. .
Austin is very sweet and once he warms up, he is quite interactive. However, he can also be aloof at times .Austin will come to you and ask to be petted and interact with you. He loves to play with his other foster siblings! Anyone who adopts Austin must have another dog as he tends to be more active and lean towards the other dog for confidence. Austin is housebroken and is learning to walk better on a leash. He would be best placed in a home where the family has another dog and is either retired or works from home. Austin really does best when someone is around most of the time and he will not thrive as an only dog.. He will also need a home with a yard, as he also loves to run and play in the back yard. Also, Austin will probably need a quieter lifestyle without a lot of stimulus and without small children.
Austin requires a person who understands the shyness and importance of socializing a herding breed dog, For the committed adopter, he will blossom into a really nice dog once he builds his confidence. Austin is looking for that special person to forge a close bond with and will show him the way with clear and consistent direction.
If you are interested in meeting our dogs, please fill out an adoption application. We require a pre-approved application to be on file before any meet and greets are scheduled. The electronic application can be found on our website at http://www.bordercolliesinneed.org/border_collie_rescue_and_adoptions/adoption_application.html
