My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Cash is a 30 pound Puggle who was found abandoned. He was in bad shape: he had a tumor in one eye and both ears were severely infected. The rescue person who got the call took one look, and thought of the cash outlay required. After a visit to the vet to get him patched up, the name "Cash" stuck.

After coming to Adopt-A-Pet Cash has seen specialists for his eye, ears, and skin. They told us he's probably 7 or 8 years old, that he was blind in one eye, and that surgery was needed to fix his chronic ear infections and remove the diseased eye. Cash is no longer living in pain and his ear infections are under control, but the surgery left him with bad hearing. Now that he is fully recovered, Cash is ready to find his forever home.

Cash has been with us for a few months so we know a lot about his personality and habits. He is an easy-going, take-it-as-it-comes type of dog who ignores cats, is fine with all other dogs, and gentle with kids. He loves to go on walks, lie in the sunshine, and sleep on his doggy bed or (even better!) his person's bed at night. His foster mom says he sleeps for 10 to 12 hours straight without a peep (although he does sometimes snore, loudly). He is house-trained, but needs to go outside every few hours. Cash likes to be around people, and sometimes barks when left alone, wondering where everyone went! We think he would do best with a family where someone is home most or all of the day. Cash is a special needs dog who needs a special person, but we think he's worth the investment.

You can meet Cash at his current foster home-- Wilmette Pet Center, 625 Green Bay Road in Wilmette--during normal store hours 7 days a week (847-251-6750, wilmettepetcenter.com). Although you might want to take him home on the spot, please note you will have to submit an application and go through the approval process. (Email info@adoptapet-il.org or call 847-550-9690 for an application. For a faster response, we suggest you email.)

Cash's adoption fee of $225 includes vet exam, eye and ear surgery, DAPP distemper combination, Rabies and Bordetella vaccinations, heartworm test (negative) heartworm preventative, routine deworming, Flea/tick preventative, microchip and neuter.
