Due to unfortunate circumstances, we need to rehome our loved up Shiba Inu, Rocco. Rocco is 9 years old, neutered, healthy, active, and likes to cuddle once he knows you. However, Rocco needs things we can’t give him, specifically a home without children or dogs (not even children or dog visitors, they make him very nervous and reactive). [We don’t know how he is with cats but shiba prey drive is quite high and we assume that a cat-free home is necessary as well.] We are looking for a new home for Rocco that will commit to keeping him active (30+ minutes of brisk walks each day, longer on-leash hikes or runs are great, too, but dog parks are not). Rocco wouldn’t be a good dog for someone gone 12 hours per day or only home for a quick bite before going out for the evening. He likes companionship, cuddling and activity. He is familiar with crates as a place to rest but is not trained to go there and would not do well crated during the day or night. He would prefer the run of the house (or most of it, anyway) while you’re gone. He’d love a fenced yard but with the right, active person, that isn’t required. He does not like children or other dogs (though he is occasionally friendly with both, his unpredictability means avoidance is necessary, which means no festivals or farmer’s markets.) [It is possible that with additional training and without the stress of a second dog he may be more predictable in public, but you should assume he isn’t until successful training occurs.] Rocco’s new home should be one with experience with shibas (or other primitive breeds). If you are an active person who wants a sweet, loving, healthy dog with lots of good years left (shibas live 15-18 years typically, and often are very active even as older dogs), please fill out the short survey linked below. Adoption will entail a home visit, and will come with a stipend to complete positive behavior training (required), and a year of high quality dog food and supplements. Rocco is up to date on all health care, vaccines, etc, with good dental health.

About CHEW Dog Rescue

Our Adoption Process...

People who are interested in adopting one of our dogs must fill out an adoption application which can be found on our website:

We do our best to match families and dogs so everyone is pleased and the placement is permanent. We reserve the right to refuse an applicant if the home situation is incompatible with the needs of the rescue dog. Rescue is about doing our best for the dog. We do home and reference checks. An adoption donation is also required at the time of adoption.
