My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Lizzy is a 3 year old black female who must have had a really rough existence before DLRR rescued her and her 6 darling puppies from the pound. She is as sweet and gentle as a dog could possibly be but she is extremely fearful. We think she may have been used as a breeder because she has had no experience with the world and everything scares her. She is very comfortable in the house and backyard but very scared of a leash and of going out anywhere else. Lizzy also finds the resident man quite scary (unless he has food with him and then he's her best friend). Surprisingly, she is animated and friendly when new people come to the house (even men!) and has been great with the resident female Lab as well as two other visiting dogs. She absolutely must have a dog friend in her new home, as she gains confidence from following another dog’s lead. Her gentle nature makes us think she would be fine with young children, however noise, unusual objects and unpredictable movements scare her to such a degree right now that we think only older children would be best. She has never had an accident in the house, barks only when someone comes to the door, is trustworthy in the house and uses the dog door. She loves to be petted and occasionally shows her young age by zooming around the yard with a big smile on her face. Lizzy is on meds for Valley Fever and though she is asymptomatic now, she will need to continue the meds for several more months. If you think you can provide a nurturing home and have a lot of patience, you might
be Her Perfect Adopter!
