My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Introducing Finn! This Plott Hound/Mountain Cur mix is a ball of love and just wants to be a part of the pack. He weighs about 50 lbs and was probably born in the beginning of 2014. He lives with two large dogs and is very friendly and submissive to both of them. He’s also housebroken!

Finn hasn’t been able to be a dog yet, but it’s almost time! The poor guy is just such a playful canine and it’s just not fair to have to hold back so much excitement. You see, Finn was treated for heartworms at the beginning of December. Heartworm treatment = crate rest. Hound = active. Are you catching on? Crate rest and hound just do not mix. But Finn has been a trooper! And he can be 100% dog on 1/11/17! Check back for an update in a couple of weeks when we can see his true colors! But so far, this is what we’ve learned -

While he is still working on his crate training, he does very well outside of his crate at bedtime. Finn gets to sleep next to Foster Mom and doesn’t make a peep, or a pee! He hasn’t been around children, but with his size and energy, he may be a bit much for the little ones. All humans are instant friends and Finn can’t get enough of them. And he absolutely loves giving kisses!

If you’re looking for a buddy to take to the dog park, Finn would be a great match. In addition to humans, he is instant besties with new dogs as well! Though he hasn’t actually been to the dog park yet (due to his vet prescribed crate rest), he’s met several dogs between getting to the shelter and being in his new foster home. This friendly fellow does not require structured introductions by any means. He’s quite the confident canine and has a pretty happy go lucky attitude. Once Finn can run around full throttle, he’ll probably require some good energy outlets. If you’re looking for a running partner, he’d probably be great! He’s still learning how to behave on a leash, but he does well on his harness lead.

Finn is an affectionate friend and just wants to be around other dogs or people. Without being demanding, he just loves soaking up all the attention. He’s also proven to be quite intelligent when it comes to interactive toys. You know the ones with kibble in them? Well, Finn has mastered the cheat method. Instead of rolling it around and picking up the fallen kibble, he holds it between his paws and uses his mouth to twist off the lid to get more! On that note, he is definitely a solid chewer with dog toys, so some heavy duty ones are necessary and crating him when left alone is definitely a good idea. Once he has more energy outlets, he may not be quite so determined.

With some more time and freedom to be the dog he has been dreaming about for the past month, we have all the confidence that Finn will shape up to be quite the catch! He is still working on his manners, but he’s never been in a stable home before, so no one’s ever taught him! Finn would probably do best in a home with a large yard and other playful pups so that he can get his energy out regularly, and with a family with an active lifestyle. And he’d probably do great with kids, he acts just like one!

To ensure our dogs are placed in a safe environment, we require a home visit for all adoptions. Because of this, we typically only adopt to homes within 30 minutes of Athens, GA. If you are further away than that and are interested in one of our pups, please still fill out an application and we can discuss your options. Please understand that you would be responsible for all transportation - meeting the dog, picking the dog up to start a trial, returning the dog should he/she not be a good fit, etc. Please visit our website for more info.
