Hera's Story...
Introducing the Goddess Pups - these cuties were born 10/31/16, and are chiweenies (chihuahua-dachshund mix). They came in as a Stop the Cycle litter - Forget Me Not has spayed and neutered the mother and father dogs, who are remaining with their family, and will now begin the search for the pups' new families.

Hera is darker than her sister, and is the more dominant of the pair. These pups have been using a wire crate as their den, with the door open, which will give them a good head start if their future families would like to crate train them. They have a typical small dog sense of caution, but are both affectionate and playful when they get to know you.

We expect that they will be under 10 pounds when full grown, though mixed breeds don't always end up the same size as their parents (genetics is a fascinating thing).

These pups should adapt to homes with other pets, and all will do best as indoor family dogs. Puppies this small generally do best with older children, as they can easily be accidentally injured by a toddler.

Puppies require a lot of human interaction, and all puppies will benefit from obedience training and full immersion in their human household. These pups' ideal homes will have someone who can exercise them with a couple of energetic (if fairly short - those legs are tiny) walks each day, plus commitment to training them how to be the best dogs they can be. These pups hope to have very few hours per day when they will be without the companionship of a human or other pet. They will reward their forever people with boundless love and loyalty! We start all puppies on their vaccinations as soon as they arrive at the shelter (this litter will have had at least 2 rounds of vaccinations prior to adoption, with their third scheduled for 1/28); they will then need rabies vaccination between 4-6 months of age.

Hera comes with a 30-day money-back trial adoption period. We will closing the first round of applications for these pups no later than 1/15/17, and will then work with approved adopters to assign pups based on individual "pupsonalities" that will be developing during their time in the shelter's care.

Spay/neuter, deworming, microchip and all age-appropriate shots are always completed before placement, and are included in the adoption fee (suggested minimum $125; more gratefully accepted!)

Can't come to Republic? Don't let that stop you! We have monthly transports to both the Seattle area and Spokane, delivering adopted pets to their new owners. If you can add a little to your payment to help us cover our volunteer driver's expenses, that would be great!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Hera, a Republic Chihuahua/Dachshund puppy was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Chihuahua/Dachshund for sale in Republic, or seeking a Chihuahua/Dachshund puppy from a breeder in Republic.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Republic already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Republic breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Chihuahua/Dachshund breeders who help with Chihuahua/Dachshund rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Republic paves the way for another one to be saved.
