My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi there!

I’m Shasta, a German Shepherd / Cattle dog mix. I’m 3.5 years old and weigh around 50 pounds.

I had a pretty rough start in life and have not experienced much kindness. This all changed when those rescue ladies crossed my way. I was pregnant again and about to give birth too. They took me and my newborn babies to a clinic to receive emergency care. One of my babies didn’t make it but I instantly knew the rest of us were on to a better life.

I’m very submissive, low energy and get along great with all people. I’m already house & crate trained and have excellent leash manners. Initially, I’m afraid of strangers and tend to be a bit shy at first but warm up quickly. I lived with several other dogs in a foster home and got along great with all of them, except for one. I think I would do best in a home where I can be the only furry love of your life. If you do have other dogs and would want to add me to your family then you would need to be located in Houston, be an experienced dog owner and be able to introduce me slowly to the rest of your furry family. Again, I would not mind having you all to myself.

Here is what my foster mom has to say about me:
She is very sweet and loves to be gently pet. She loves to put her whole head in my hand and lean against me briefly. She has most likely been severely or repeatedly hit and mistreated as she is hand shy and will hit the ground quickly if she thinks you are mad and about to hit her. We have shown her nothing but respect and love and she has responded quickly. She loves to be near us but is happy to lie across the room too.
Shasta is afraid of lightning but if she’s near you she feels safe and will lie down. Crating her during a bad storm helps her feel safe. She walks great on the leash and does not pull. She responds well and quickly to corrections especially when she’s caught in the act of doing something wrong. She is very smart and intuitive. In general, she is a low key, loyal dog who will need some exercise but not excessive amounts. She likes her chewing toys and treats and has a cache sight where all her treasures are too.

And last but not least this is what my lovely caretaker at the boarding facility has to say about me:
Shasta will be a very loyal appreciative companion. She is so very sweet but very submissive as if someone mistreated her in the past. She loves to be cuddled and very tolerant of hugs and squeezes. She is very house broken, never has had a mishap. She has never growled or snapped at a person but will at some dogs.

There you have it. I’m a good girl and gorgeous at that. Now all I need is a gentle & kind family I can call my very own. Is that you?
