Nio's Info...

Nio's Story...
We have a male guinea pig who is looking for his forever home. His name is Nio, and he came to the rescue a few months ago. He originally came in with his girlfriend and two kids, as a transfer from a shelter up in Wisconsin. The kids (baby guinea pigs) have since found homes, but Nio is still here, and his girlfriend is still on pregnancy watch... but now it's Nio's turn to find a home for himself!

Nio is an Abyssinian guinea pig. He has a few rosettes here and there across his body. He is white with spots of agouti and tan – very cute!

Nio is a very sweet guinea pig. As most guinea pigs are, he can be a bit skittish, but as you gain his trust (read: bribe him with food and tasty veggies), you can get some pets in here and there. And of course, once you actually pick him up and hold him in your arms, he settles down and you can pet and hold him no problem. He has never bitten. He does just fine with nail trims. Very sweet piggie.

We have down that Nio was born on 1/22/2016, so he’s currently right around 11 months old – nice and young, good age to bring him into your family!

Nio did have a cagemate for awhile, and they got along just great. We anticipate that he might get along with other guinea pigs again, but we cannot make any guarantees as to whether he will or will not get along with your guinea pig.

Nio loves his igloo and loves to have something to hide under. Should you need an igloo or wooden house for him, we have some for sale.

This guinea pig will come with some food to start you out with (2 pounds of Oxbow Cavy Cuisine) and a printed out version of our guinea pig care packet. We also have additional supplies for sale, such as Oxbow guinea pig food, cages, food, food bowls, water bottles, hidey houses, and more.

Regardless of past guinea pig experience, all potential homes will be asked to read our guinea pig care packet and fill out our adoption application/guinea pig questionnaire. If you are unwilling to do this, please do not waste our time or yours. No guinea pig will go to a new home without an adoption application being filled out - no exceptions.

This guinea pig is located in Hammond, Indiana (zip code 46324).

The adoption fee for Nio is $25

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Nio, a Hammond Guinea Pig was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Guinea Pig for sale in Hammond, or seeking a Guinea Pig from a breeder in Hammond.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Hammond already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Hammond breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Guinea Pig breeders who help with Guinea Pig rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Hammond paves the way for another one to be saved.
