Charlie was adopted from a high-kill shelter about a year ago -- but the home he went to was far more social and active than the life he'd been used to. Neither he or his human were happy, so she made the selfless decision to find a home for Charlie that is quieter where he won't be as stressed at new circumstances.

Charlie bonds very closely with his owner, showing great affection whenever the owner is present. But he is apprehensive, barky and insecure when meeting new people. He gets stressed at new stuff - and he reacts by barking and threatening to 'bite'.  He hasn't bitten yet and we watch him closely and don't place him in a position where he might!  We have consulted a trainer and we are working on positive reinforcement when introduced to new people -- and... he has made some progress. BUT he is still a work in progress and a patient dog savvy owner would be his ideal home.

We have determined that he does BEST in a home with another dog or dogs--- He doesn't do as well (barks more) when he is the only child.  He loves to be in your lap and loves to give kisses... He is 100% housebroken and is really a sweet little man with a couple quirks. eg.  in the morning when it's time to get out of bed and got outside to go potty, he walks behind me and love-nips me in the butt! (so maybe I can walk faster?) He is a funny little dog.

A strong calm, alpha owner (preferably female) would be best for this guy.  He really is sweet and affectionate but we need to convince him that he is safe!  He loves to play ball and brings it back!!

He is about 3 years old - neutered, up to date on all vaccines - micro-chipped - a spaniel -- perhaps a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel mix, housebroken, does not mark - dog friendly (no cats and probably no kids).  He is full grown at about 20 lbs. and really is a nice little guy (once he decides he likes you (generally takes 2-3 days -- and THEN he is your new BEST FRIEND!).  He will be re-homed to the immediate area (Broward/Dade/Palm Beach counties) only.

Re-homing fee:  $200

DOWNLOAD OUR APPLICATION:  Click on ADOPT - at the bottom of that page you will find our application.

NOTE: Adoption/rehoming fees are applied towards the vet bill: Exam, blood tests, vaccinations, fecal, worming, spay/neuter, and microchip. There is rarely anything left over, but if that happens, the monies get applied to the next or previous pet - who may have had to have an x-ray, be groomed or have a dental.

About Grateful Paws Dog & Cat Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

We are a group of animal loving people who volunteer our time to save the life of a dog or cat in need. We are not breed specific but our ability to help depends entirely upon whether we have a foster home in which to place the pet while we are looking for a new forever home.

We are entirely volunteer and none of us are compensated for our time or efforts. Monies donated go toward the animals in our care.

Come Meet Our Pets...

For the most part, we reply primarily on the internet because we all work full-time jobs during the week!

We do not have a physical building - but we try to participate in Saturday (and sometimes a Sunday) adoption events from 11am - 3pm on a regular basis. Please check our website for our most current calendar that shows where we will be.

It is always best to check the Upcoming Events page of our website

or give us a call to find out where we are going to be. Week nights 954-462-8840 eves after 8pm or on the week-ends: 954-579-3753.

Our EMAIL is monitored day and night, and is the BEST way to contact us.

Our Adoption Process...

We perform a telephone or in-person interview and ask our perspective adopters to complete an application for review by our board (generally takes a day or less). We want to meet the family, so we will come to your house to see where our pet will live. We do a vet check and if applicable, a landlord or condo association check as well. And finally, we accept an adoption donation that is applied towards the vet and care bill for that pet. The range is from $75 to $350.
