My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We have a hetero beige male chinchilla that is looking for his new home. His name is Benny. Benny came into the rescue back into the summer, along with another chin, when their family found themselves overwhelmed with other life tasks and was unable to care for the two chins any longer. While the other chin has already found a home, Benny is still here at the rescue and still waiting for his own perfect home to come along!

We are told that Benny was born around August 2013, which makes him right about 3.5 years old. He’s an adult, but he still has plenty of life left to live and plenty of spunk to bring to his new family

As you may notice in the pictures, Benny chews his fur. He was fur chewed when he got here, and being here has not improved the situation (it does for some chins… but for not poor Benny). We have him in a quiet cage off to the side, away from the hustle and bustle… but the rescue environment may still be too much for him. We suggest that he go to a quiet home where all kids are 7 years old or older. While this doesn’t guarantee that he will stop fur chewing, less going on and less commotion can often help these chins. Benny is an active boy, so we feel like he might enjoy playtime, once he has settled into his new home. We wouldn’t suggest this right away, so as to not stress him out more, when you have to catch him from playtime. He’s a character, as he spent quite a bit of time trying to chew and dig his way out of the cage we had him in for pictures. Maybe he never had shavings before (we use fleece in our rescue cages)? You will be amused by this little man. He does just fine with being handled and petted, though he could use more one-on-one handling to get him used to you. Since he’s fur chewing, we already know that he’s somewhat stressed, so we won’t want to stress him out even more, while he’s here, but you can work with him when you get him to your home, and work on building that bond!

Benny doesn’t bite.

We don’t know if Benny gets along with other chins – the chinchilla he came in with was a female and they were housed separately. If you are interested in housing him with one of your, or one of our, chinchillas, let us know and we’ll see what we can do.

This chinchilla will come with some food to start you out (2 pounds of Tradition pellets), a goodie bags of chews/treats, and a printed out version of our care packet. He will also come with a lifetime of help and support, should you ever need it. If more supplies are needed, we also sell a variety of chinchilla supplies, from cages to hidey houses to hammocks and everything in between.

Regardless of past chinchilla experience, all potential homes will be asked to read our chinchilla care packet, fill out our adoption application/chinchilla questionnaire, and provide proof of cage. If you are unwilling to do these things, please do not waste our time or yours. No chinchilla will go to a new home without an adoption application being filled out - no exceptions.

This chinchilla is located in Hammond, Indiana (zip code 46324).

The adoption fee for this chinchilla would normally be $100, but due to our Super Summer Sale, he is now available for $75!!

Must be adopted or have a deposit down by July 31st. Sorry, but our multi-chin discount does not apply during this sale.
