My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Beautiful Colleen is a 2-year-old dilute calico who is hard not to fall in love with. She loves to sit in your lap and just take in all of the loving you’re willing to give her. It’s hard to believe that not too long ago she nearly lost her life. Colleen was rescued from a hoarder who had more animals than they could possibly care for. As with many hoarding cases the animals receive little to no care and are often in terrible shape. Luckily, Colleen arrived to the shelter healthy and nearly ready for adoption. Unfortunately, she tested positive for feline leukemia (FeLV) and was nearly euthanized. Luckily, her story made it’s way to PAAWS RI and we felt compelled to help this happy & healthy girl.

PAAWS RI truly believes that every cat deserves the home of his or her dreams despite age, breed, or disease. Every single day we strive to fulfill our mission by helping the neediest population of animals in RI. And Colleen is no different.

Colleen is a young and healthy cat who shows no signs of the disease. With her fabulous personality and beautiful markings we believe she’d be adopted almost immediately. Feline leukemia may sound frightening, but we know that cats with FeLV can go on to live long lives inside with proper nutrition & care. Of course, we cannot predict the life span of any cat, but nonetheless, they ALL deserve loving homes, including Colleen.

Unfortunately, FeLV is highly contagious ONLY to other cats. But, she would be a wonderful addition to a home with other cats diagnosed with FeLV or even a dog. Colleen would also make an incredible companion for any person without a cat!

An extraordinary number of cats with FeLV are euthanized every year. But we just could not let that happen to Colleen. So many times our community has helped get cats just like Colleen adopted by sharing with their friends & family. We hope you will help her, too. PAAWS RI is committed to the well being of Colleen and willing to assist with medical care for her if she does become ill from FeLv. We would also be happy to talk with any potential adopter about the disease to help answer any questions or concerns!

At PAAWS RI, all of the cats that come into our care are spayed/neutered, receive a rabies vaccination, distemper vaccinations, de-worming, flea treatment, microchipping, and testing for Feline Leukemia/FIV.
