Hi, my name is Maximus. I consider myself a pretty lucky boy these days but I surely cannot say anything good about my past. My previous owners chained me outside 24/7. The wonderful person who loves and cares for me suspects the heartless people simply let me off the chain to fend for myself when they decided they no longer wanted me. This was especially scary for me since my doctor confirmed I am blind. I still navigate well considering my disability and very possible still see some shadows. Like most dogs, that lose certain abilities, my other senses are heightened which means I use my nose and ears to compensate. Thankfully, they still work great!
All of my medical needs have been addressed with one small catch. Please do not stop reading now! I can assure you it is not a complicated matter! I tested heartworm positive; however, I am a low positive, showing no outward symptoms of the disease. Once adopted, I will simply need to continue to be maintained on the heartworm preventative, Heartguard Plus or its generic equivalent. The ingredient, ivermectin slowly kills and extracts the nasty worms causing the disease without my having to endure a more harsh treatment. What a relief since I have already been through so much! My doctor says it may take some time to achieve a negative heartworm test result and it is recommended that I be tested every 6 months so we have updates on my status.
I do not care for cats or smaller dogs. Larger dogs that have higher energy levels are also not in my best interest. My happily ever after can have other larger dogs; however, they must be larger, even keeled dogs so I am not startled by their movements. My next home must have understanding people with a quieter environment to offer along with patience, plenty of love and the willingness to accept my imperfections. Older dog savvy children or an adult only home with a fenced yard would be ideal. I am a total love bug that likes to snuggle up with you but can also be very content cuddled up by myself in a fluffy dog bed.
I am already house trained, well-behaved and walk flawlessly on a leash. I am a special guy that is looking for that perfect someone. All I can hope is that I am not asking too much and my forever family is out there. If you think my perfect home may be with you, please contact my rescue organization. They would love to hear from you! Even if you are not local to my rescue network, my rescue family is very dedicated to bridging any gaps to make an adoption possible for the right person.
