My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We have a 3 year old tan female chinchilla that is looking for her new home. She came to NWI a bit ago, and she was born in November 2013. She is what is called a culled breeder – a large rancher used her for breeding, and was going to put her down when she stopped breeding, but instead, we picked her up (along with quite a few other females) and now she’s ready to go to her new home!

This girl’s color is called tan, which is an overall brown color that wraps around from the back of the chinchilla all the way around to the belly. Unlike many chinchillas, tans do not have a white belly – their belly is the same color as the rest of them. Because tans have the beige gene, you’ll notice this girl’s ears are freckled. We think it gives her personality!

This tan female is an inquisitive girl. She keeps coming up to the front of the cage to check on what's going on and see how things are going. Very sweet. She is rrelatively easy to scoop right up in your arms. She does well with being handled and petted, and actually seems to enjoy being petted. Sits pretty nicely while you're petting her. Super sweet. Doesn't bite. Relaxes nice in your arms and pretty calm chinchilla. Very mellow.

This chinchilla is currently living alone, and we do not know if she gets along with other chinchillas. If you are curious as to whether she might get along with your, or one of our, chinchillas, let us know and we’ll see what we can do.

This chinchilla would make a great “first chinchilla” for someone who’s never had chinchillas before.

This chinchilla will come with some food to start you out (2 pounds of Tradition pellets), a goodie bags of chews/treats, and a printed out version of our care packet. She will also come with a lifetime of help and support, should you ever need it. If more supplies are needed, we also sell a variety of chinchilla supplies, from cages to hidey houses to hammocks and everything in between.

Regardless of past chinchilla experience, all potential homes will be asked to read our chinchilla care packet and fill out our adoption application/chinchilla questionnaire. If you are unwilling to do this, please do not waste our time or yours. No chinchilla will go to a new home without an adoption application being filled out - no exceptions.

This chinchilla is located in Hammond, Indiana (zip code 46324). We can ship chinchillas from Chicago O’Hare, to a major airport near you. Inquire if interested.

The adoption fee for this tan female chinchilla is $100
