Don't feel sorry for Asher. He may have only 3 legs but it hasn't stopped him one bit! (Just watch the video and you'll see the Little Big Man in action!!) He has as much energy as any other dog and don't tell him he's small!!! He loves to run and jump up and down, and he loves to race the other dogs at his foster home and at the dog park. And he loves his snuggle time, loves to lay in your lap just to chill. And he's such a character: he has the confidence of a Great Dane! He thinks he is the biggest dog in the room.

Asher was spotted in the "Puppy Pit" (literally a pit where they toss puppies at their shelter) at a very high-kill shelter in Arkansas, with a badly broken leg and no medication. He stayed there for days, no veterinary care, just waiting for his "Claim Time" to be up so that they could put him down with the next batch. We took him with the details that he was a 4 - 6 month old puppy and that it was a fresh break that could be easily fixed. But Asher was no puppy. It turns out that Asher was 4 - 6 years old, and it was an old, severe leg break that required amputation. Plus, he was heartworm positive. But once we take a dog into our program we never turn our back on it, so we amputated his leg, cured his heartworm, and now Asher is ready for a home of his own with a family who is equally young at heart.

Asher is a very playful boy and also a very vocal player -- he growls when he plays like he's really trying to be intimidating -- but everyone can see he's just a little pipsqueak! Due to his Napolean-complex, he would do well as an only dog or in a home with submissive dogs who will let him wear the crown. He's been good with the middle schoolers who visit his foster home, so we prefer to keep him with kids over 10 years of age. He really does have the confidence of a 100 lb dog, but at about one-tenth the size, he's just a silly little man. Asher is between 4 - 6 years old, he weighs about 12 pounds, and he's a very healthy boy. If you're young at heart too, please visit www.pinkshelter.org for more information about the adoption process or click here for our online application. Full vetting, microchip and neuter included in his $300 adoption fee. Transport fee is additional $150. IF YOU HAVE AOL or YAHOO PLEASE CHECK YOUR SPAM FILE FOR OUR RESPONSE

Why Adoption is a Great Option

*Asher - PENDING, a Westport Chihuahua/Australian Cattle Dog dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Chihuahua/Australian Cattle Dog for sale in Westport, or seeking a Chihuahua/Australian Cattle Dog dog from a breeder in Westport.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Westport already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Westport breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Chihuahua/Australian Cattle Dog breeders who help with Chihuahua/Australian Cattle Dog rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Westport paves the way for another one to be saved.
