Niya's story can be found at https://www.thedodo.com/shelter-dog-niya-thanks-2019246823.html

Niya is a 1 year old American Staffordshire Terrier/Boxer/Sharpei mix who has DNA results with the full details of her breeds. She was rescued from a shelter, after having been surrendered by someone who abused her, and used her as a bait dog. Niya was 8 months old when she arrived and she was so scared of everyone that she peed and froze. She had to be carried every where she went and it took months to gain her trust and help her learn that humans are good. Niya loves other dogs of all kinds, but she should not live with any under 40 lbs because she sometimes forgets her own strength and has hurt two small dogs. She is great with cats, and would like a home with a family experienced with special needs dogs. Niya still does not walk on a leash, but with a fenced in yard you will have plenty of time to work on that with her. She is house-trained, and must have a crate in her forever home. Her crate is her safe place, and she will retreat there as needed to gain confidence and come back. If we didn't have her DNA test we would have said she was a White German Shepherd/Husky mix, with her blue eyes and her soft plush fur. She is a lover of a dog and needs a family who doesn't yell. She is afraid of a bunch of odd little things: Treats in their bag, anything long raised over a person's head...and common things like Large Loud men, especially hispanic/brown skinned ones, dogs who are aggressive in their approach to her, new people, and new situations.

This is a very special dog who will only go to a very special person. All of our "special" dogs must allow lifelong visits by the co presidents of the rescue, allow for a long transition including foster care prior to adoption, have one other similar sized physically playful dog, no children under 14, experience with scared/formerly abused dogs, continue on heart worm preventative for life, work with a trainer to aid in transition to your family, send pictures and updates for the rest of Niya's life, and be huge hearted loving and patient people. Please know that Niya has been dearly loved from the moment she arrived and has come so far, her foster family will miss her but knows she deserves a home where she can get more attention. The family who takes Niya into their hearts will be forever changed. She is forgiveness walking on four legs.

About ARROW Animal Rescue Revolution on Wheels

About Our Rescue Group...

We are a family run no kill foster based dog rescue located in Normal, IL with foster homes all across the state of Illinois. We rescue dogs from animal control and animal shelters in Missouri, Kentucky, Texas, Illinois and Iowa with more states being added all the time. We also accept owner relinquishments. We fully vet all of the dogs in our rescue, place them in loving foster homes, often with other dogs, cats and kids. We find them forever homes through sites like this as well as Facebook, and Petfinder. We have been involved in rescue for 3 years with other rescues but felt that we would have made other decisions when it comes to euthanizing, how dogs were being treated, and the adoption process. We thought we could do a better job. We only euthanize dogs in our rescue if they are in pain or suffering and cannot be helped. We provide training to dogs that need this prior to adoption.

We also have a pet matching service so if you don't see what you are looking for on our rescue page, please message us and we can help you find the perfect pet, have it transported to us, vet it, and make it available for adoption to you!

All adopters must fill out an application to adopt on our website. You are welcome to meet any of our dogs in their foster homes once you have an approved application. Since we are a small family run rescue with a few volunteers at times when there is a high volume of applications it may take longer than 5 days to process your application. You are free to contact us at any point at arrowdogrescue@gmail.com to check on the status of your application.

After application is approved, we do a home visit either prior to or at the time of the adoption. Minimum adoption donations is $275 for adults and $350 for puppies 9 months or under. Some dogs have sponsorships by donors which will reduce the cost for the adopter. Payment by Paypal to arrowdogrescue@gmail.com or in cash at the time of the adoption.

There is an adoption contract stipulating that you return the dog to our rescue if for any reason you are not able to keep them. The dog's microchip will be registered to the rescue for the life of the dog. You will be required to keep your pup on heart worm preventative year around.
