My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Harry the Handsome is a special guy. While here with us at Broken Tail Rescue, we are reminding him all the time that special is the same as great, and we think he hears us.

Harry came to us with a bad flea infestation in the matted hair on his face, missing quite a bit of body hair - presumably from a food allergy, walking funny, itchy, eyes infected, a burn on his side from falling into a radiator and a mouthful of rotten teeth.

But Harry also came to us with hope in those eyes looking for love. And that is what we will find for him.

Harry was found two years ago abandoned and tied to a street pole. He was found by a nice woman who gave him love, but sadly could not afford proper veterinary care. His loving owner passed away, and her family asked if Broken Tail Rescue.

They say cats have 9 lives. We don't know about dogs, but Harry is now on his third and best life.

Harry has stranger danger. He barks and hides behind his foster mom when there is a new person around. He hangs out at his foster mom's feet and you might even call him her shadow. He is working on his housebreaking and not greeting other dogs with a bark. So far he has been great with the dog and cat in his foster home.

What does Harry need? Harry needs a family that will look beyond his "stuff" and into those eyes and see a dog that craves love. They will understand that he looks and walks a little different, but there's still a dog that loves to play and cuddle. This family will not have a lot of stairs in their house that Harry will have to negotiate and not a lot of people in and out constantly. And this family will have a ready lap for him to run and jump into when he is looking for cuddles.

Harry is 10 years old, 12 pounds, current on heartworm and flea/tick preventative, current on vaccinations and microchipped.

Harry the Handsome is being fostered in Worcester, MA.

The adoption fee for Harry will be reduced for the right family.

Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet.
