My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

When a shelter volunteer first met Sherlock, she was struck first by his cuteness...how could you not be? His curious and very affectionate personality (so typical of a happy and well-socialized guy) became the entertainment of the day...so funny and cute that you just had to periodically hug him. We were all very glad that he wouldn't remember the terrible challenges of his younger days...Code Red at a dreary shelter.

As hope seemed to fade away for Sherlock, Farfel's got a message that he was very urgent. Through the love and immediate action of rescuers in New Mexico, Sherlock was saved at the very last second. From that minute forth, he has been nothing but a delight! He's learning so quickly and understanding that the world can be a very positive place.

Sherlock has been identified as a purebred Basenji. We can't guarantee that this is the case but we can't really see another breed in this very beautiful guy. Sherlock currently weighs 39 lbs and is approximately 9 - 12 months old.

We are searching for a very loving, dog-crazy home for this exceptional guy. As he learns his skills in a positive and respectful environment, Sherlock will develop a very strong bond with his family. We would also like a situation where his people are present...it can be a retired couple or individual who has the energy and patience for a young guy. Or a family with children that choose to include their pet in their daily lives would be great.

Sherlock is a great candidate for positive reinforcement group training class...this will mold him into a great and bonded adult companion. Sherlock will learn skills through training that promote good behavior and peaceful relationships with humans and dogs. It's also important that Sherlock is given mental stimulation and lots of exercise. It's never too early to start teaching leash manners on the incredible trails of Colorado....this will develop Sherlock into a fit and happy companion.

We've requested that Sherlock be neutered prior to his transport to Colorado. We're not optimistic that this will occur. If it doesn't, Farfel's will be happy to cover all costs for Sherlock's neutering and microchip if our Denver vet is used.

Sherlock currently has a shelter coat..but with great nutrition and periodic baths/brushing, it will become the gorgeous and cottony-soft coat of the adult Basenji.

Sherlock will arrive on transport in Denver on Saturday 1/21/17. If interested in this fun-loving and very sweet best friend, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com or fax to 303-443-7730.
