Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Poor George lost the only owner he ever knew when they decided he "wasn't the dog for them"!!! To make matters worse, his owner surrendered him to a VERY high kill shelter where George instantly found himself on the euthanasia list because there was no space.
George is some kind of coonhound mix, we believe, and he is approximately 3 years old and weighs about 55 lbs. He is fully vetted, neutered, up to date on all vaccines, heartworm negative, and on flea/tick and heartworm prevention. George has been given a clean bill of health!
George is a very chill, calm boy. Typical of hounds, when he isn't following a scent, he is sleeping! George's favorite thing to do is hang out on his foster mom's couch and watch movies. He gets along well with other dogs, and will play some, but would not be a good match for another very active, hyper dog, because he loses interest quickly in playing.
Hounds make amazing family pets and are typically good with kids. George was fostered with children and other dogs for awhile before we brought him north. However, like a lot of hounds, George doesn't like to be startled awake if he is sleeping, so we are looking for a home for him with children over the age of 10. George would make a wonderful companion for an older, retired person who is home a lot. George is not destructive and does not need to be crated. He is still learning how to walk on a leash (down south he was probably a free-roaming boy most of the time!), but he is very eager to please!
