My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi there! My name is Abel and I am one loving dog. Let me tell you what I can do.

1. You ask me to sit and I will. You call me and I will come. That is always going to be me.

2. You want to play ball (fetch) and I will. In fact, I love to play with the ball. I will run after it and throw it to myself!

3. You want me to sleep in your bed with you, I love that. I do not move at all.

4. You need to take me to the pet supply store to shop, I like that a lot. I get petted a lot there.

5. I want to be a couch potato with my people, soaking up affection and attention.

6. You want me to wag my tail, it never stops if you love me. You can just look at me from the corner of your eye and my tail will start to thump, thump, thump.

7. You want kisses, no problem. I can do that constantly if you want.

8. You want unconditional love any time any where, that's my mission in life. I wait impatiently for your affection.

9. I love to wrestle! I think it's big fun.

10. There are many more thing I can do, but what I need is ... someone to love me, take care of me, let me hug them and be my friend.

Until now, I've never known a bad day, but my dad can't take care of me anymore. So, I'm now homeless and looking for the home of my dreams. I am smart and obedient. I am super, super sweet. I do not care about food very much. I am much more interested in people-time. I weigh 50 lbs and I'm about 1 year old. I am housetrained. I listen very well and I aim to please. I played with another dog the other day and I did really well. I live for people and will be happiest in a home with no cats and no small kids. Please give me a chance to join your home! Please. Adoption fee: $75. Adopt a pair: $115. Fee includes testing, deworming, vaccinations, spay/neuter, 60 days of free pet insurance and microchip.

Adoption and Foster Care Application

UPCOMING EVENTS:
Sunday, May 7 Adoption Event at PetPeople, 6520 Telegraph Rd, Bloomfield Hills. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., come meet adoptable dogs and puppies (as available - not all adoptable animals will be at every event) on the first Sunday of every month. Event dates for 2017: May 7, June 4, July 2, August 6, September 3, October 1, November 5 and December 3.

Sunday, August 13: Adoption Event at Dodge Park in Sterling Heights from noon to 4 p.m., come meet adoptable pets at the 2017 Paws in the Park 10-year anniversary celebration for Paws for Life, including adoptable pets, dog walk, family picnic, vendors, dog games and kids' activities. Games, raffles, entertainment and fun for everyone!

NOTE ABOUT BREED LABELING: Visual breed identification of dogs is unreliable and usually inaccurate. So, for most of our adoptable dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

Why is labeling a dog such a big deal? A label will stick with a dog for the rest of its life. A label can mean discrimination, losing its home or even death. Labels are a problem for the dogs when we, as the local experts on animals, allow adopters, politicians and community members to think that the label we assign can predict who that dog is or will be.

Adoption Process:
Complete the application at www.pawsforliferescue.org. We then arrange a location, date and time for you to meet some pets. If the meeting goes well and everyone is happy, you begin the mandatory, minimum two-week adjustment period with the pet as part of your family. You will pay the non-refundable adoption fee at the start of the two-week adjustment period. This pending period allows your new dog or cat time to adjust to their new home, new people, new routine, etc., and for you to decide if it's a match and the right pet for you. At the end of two weeks (some people extend the adjustment time as needed and that's fine too), if everyone is happy, then we finalize the adoption. Feel free to email if you have any questions.
