My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Dak, now Finn, update: I am fostering this little guy, calling him Finn. He is extremely low energy. Around the house and our fenced yard he mostly sleeps or sits. He will play for a few seconds but does not initiate play; however, he is a different pup at the dog park. After a time of quietly watching the other dogs, he will run and run, join a pack and entice them to run with him (no contact). He is not afraid of the water and will go right in and sit down when he's hot. Finn was a little defiant (quietly, of course) but is learning to come, touch, sit, and stay. In fact I am ready to start him on intermittent reinforcement inside the house, but he still needs more intensive work on the long leash outside. He will work for pieces of hot dog and other high value treats, but not so much for ordinary dog treats. Because of his short attention span, training sessions are usually less than 5 minutes in length but he is making progress nevertheless. He wants to be a door dasher, but after two weeks of training will wait for permission to go out -- still has to have a verbal command and occasionally have the door closed to remind him. We believe that perhaps Finn needs to be in a family with one or more dogs, as they seem to bring him out of his shell. He is interested (for him) in feet and shoes, so it is probably a good idea to keep shoes out of his reach, although he has only chewed my gardening shoes when he was outdoors on his own. As you can probably tell from his photos, Finn is a BC mix, we think he may have had an Aussie mother as his tail was bobbed, but his energy level is not typical Border Collie (or Aussie, for that matter). But what a sweetie he is!!!!! He walks beautifully on leash and trots along just fine for walks up to 2 1/2 miles. He will bark once or twice if he has a good reason, but no more than that. He does not jump, nip, whine, scratch, beg, or poop and pee in the house. He loves his crate and will put himself to bed throughout the day and at night. He likes a little dried liver treat in the crate at bedtime (Trader Joe's). Shedding is minimal, certainly much less than your average BC. His is not a big personality, but a nice quiet presence.
