My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

POGI: 10 Year Old Yellow Male Neutered Lab 94 lbs

Pogi was surrendered to a local animal shelter and they contacted GGLRR to see if we could take him into our program since senior dogs are more difficult for them to adopt and he was on the "Put To Sleep" list. He has been with one owner for the ten years. They surrendered him as they said he barks a lot. The Lab Rescue Rep spent an hour with him at the kennel and he never barked once. All she observed was a sweet, loving, playful good dog. He was kenneled with another dog at the shelter and they were fine together.

From the notes of the previous owners:

Pogi was left alone most of the time as the owners were working. He was crated overnight. He is housebroken. He is a playful dog around children but has never lived with them. He is friendly with strangers and other dogs. Pogi has had obedience classes and knows sit, down, stay, come and heel. He doesn't chase anything inappropriate (cars, etc.) and does not lunge at anything when leashed. He has received good medical care throughout his life including teeth cleaning in 2015.

Notes from the shelter:

Pogi came to us (12/1) so these are some notes from his stay at the shelter. "Pogi is a sweetheart. He is very affectionate and loves to go on walks and fetch the ball. He is very playful and loves treats. He knows sit and comes right away when called. He also loves to be petted and he will lean against your legs. Love him. He is a keeper and a wonderful dog. He is a gentle soul with lots of love to give. He is very active and loves to play fetch like a puppy. He likes to be brushed. He is a big cuddle bear!"

From Pogi's Rescue Rep:

My time with Pogi, as his Rescue Rep, is that this boy is terrific. He truly is a love and has a lot of life and love to give his new family. As with most older Labs, he does has some arthritis and thus we want a stair-free home. Though gentle, he is still a big boy, and thus any kids should be 6 and older (unless dog savvy.). Pogi went to his foster home today and rode well in the car. There has not been a peep (or a bark) since arriving at the foster's home. Because he has lived much of his life alone, Lab Rescue wants someone who is around a good part of the day as he wants to be part of the human pack. Pogi would make a great first family dog.

From Pogi's Foster:

Pogi has been a sweetheart since coming to us. He sleeps quietly in his crate. He is housebroken. Likes taking walks and walks nicely on leash. I have my Lab and my son's Rat Terrier staying with us and Pogi is good with both of them. He is one big snuggler, likes to lay by your feet.

Great temperament and just wants to be part of the family.

Medical - Pogi had a wellness check in August and is healthy, up to date on vaccinations, neutered, heartworm negative and microchipped.

Pogi needs a cat free home.

He is located in Mountain View.

If you feel you might be a good home for Pogi and you want a good boy who loves everyone, please call Rescue Rep Sandy at 650-303-2436. Please leave good days/times to return calls.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
