My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

All Pound Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested, de-wormed (if required), and micro-chipped prior to adoption. The adoption donation of $400 is applied to assist in the costs of veterinary care and the overall care of the dog.

We at PDR firmly believe in the importance of obedience training, regardless of breed or size of dog, and have a clause in our adoption contract requiring adopters to attend and complete a basic obedience course at a facility of their choosing. Only in certain circumstances will we waive this clause, so please be prepared to attend dog school should you wish to apply for a dog through our program.

For more information and adoption applications please consult our website at www.pounddog.ca.

This little darling is Aggie (Agnes), a 13 week old Border Collie/Lab cross puppy who is looking for her forever family. We don’t know why life brought Aggie to a rural pound but can assure you it wasn’t due to any fault in her character: Aggie is an extremely sweet and gentle puppy who will make a wonderful addition to a family.

Although cute as a button now, little Miss Aggie will grow to be a big girl and will likely weigh 70lbs plus by the time she is done growing. She is a medium-high energy dog and will require both physical and mental activities on a daily basis in order to keep her tired and satisfied. Aggie already keeps up on hour-long daily walks and loves to run in the park and backyard with her foster siblings. She can almost always be found eating fuzz or emptying the toy box, and especially loves playing tug with her foster brother. She is wonderful in the car and loves visiting friends and the local pet stores. She responds well to correction and doesn’t give too much sass when you confiscate a precious rock or pinecone that she is trying to smuggle into the house. Aggie is already an exceptional walker and will generally stay by your side or behind you (unless, of course, a leaf blows by) and will come back very quickly after you call her name. She recently has shown a heightened interest in darting critters and will try to chase so her forever family will need to continue leash training so she understands what is expected of her.

Aggie is left in her crate throughout the day (with a break at lunch) and sleeps in it throughout the night. Because she is still just a baby, Aggie needs to be let out at lunch for a bathroom break because she cannot hold it for the whole day. Aggie is still getting used to her crate and will whine and cry for the first few minutes until she settles in. She is given lots of treat toys to play with as well as a Kong and bones/antlers to chew on to keep her occupied. Aggie will sleep throughout the night without making a peep and can usually last up to 8 hours before she needs to be let out for a pee. When in the crate she will always let you know when she needs to go (whimpering/barking) and has never had an accident in it. Outside of her crate Aggie has only had a few accidents in the house. She has learned to go to the door when she needs to go out but still does need to be coaxed outside after a nap or wrestling session.

Aggie is generally very quiet while in the house and backyard and rarely barks. She is very curious of new things and loves meeting new people. She is a bit shy at first and tries to hide behind one of her foster parents but will come around very quickly, especially if there are treats in the mix. Continued socialization with people and new places will be essential for Aggie so that she becomes comfortable in a variety of settings. She does not react to the doorbell and isn’t usually a jumper when meeting new people. If she does get too excited and jumps up she will sit when told. She follows her foster parents and siblings from room to room and is almost always underfoot. Because of her age she does attempt to chew on things (trim, cabinets, SHOES, etc.) but will leave it alone when told and offered a toy as a distraction. Although a calm natured puppy, she is still a puppy with rambunctious tendencies and needs to be supervised at all times.

Aggie is currently living with two larger dogs and three cats, all of whom she adores. She plays constantly with the dogs and tries to keep up when they play and run around the yard. She is not scared of larger dogs and although this isn’t a requirement, Aggie would do great with a well-behaved canine sibling to keep her company and show her the ropes as she continues to grow. Aggie is very interested in her feline companions and follows them around constantly. The cats are very tolerant of dogs and allow her to sniff and lick them when she wants (which is quite frequently). She has quickly learned that chasing the cats is not ok and if she will be gaining a feline sibling they must be used to dogs and accepting of a sometimes pesky shadow. Aggie is currently being fostered in a home without children but has shown positive interest and interaction with the ones she has met. Because of her age and gentle disposition we believe that Aggie will do well with children over the age of 10 as long as her training continues and her adopters understand that she is a large breed dog that will continue to grow.

Like a true Border collie, Aggie is an incredibly intelligent dog and learned basic commands (sit, down, stay) almost immediately. She is currently the “demo dog” in a local puppy class and is excelling in every aspect. She absolutely loves to learn new things and is completely motivated to please. Aggie’s happiness is tied to continuous learning and challenges and her forever family will need to commit to putting Aggie in multiple levels and types of training at a reputable training facility. If you are not able to commit the time to advanced levels of training than Aggie is not the dog for you.

Overall, Aggie is a brand new soul who is full of potential and has all of the love in the world to give. She is an enthusiastic, entertaining little girl who wants nothing more than to roll in piles of toys and to lick excessively. She is seeking a forever family who will keep her safe and teach her how to be a well-rounded dog. If you are looking for a playmate, future exercise partner, and cuddle companion, Aggie is most definitely the pup for you.
