My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Howdy! My name is Petey and I was dumped and abandoned in a fenced-in lot by my previous owners in an older area of Sumter. My rescue, Carolina Helping Paws Rescue, took me in, vetted me, and gave me foster home with lots of food, playmates and love! I am a sweet boy with a medium to long coat. My foster mom thinks that I am a rat terrier/Shih Tzu mix but not 100% sure. My foster mom says that I have plenty of energy and seem to get along with my fur-brothers. After hours of playing, I just love to sit with my humans in the recliner or couch while I re-energize. I am not big on licking your face but I will show my love to you in other ways. I will sleep in the big bed with my humans all throughout the night without any problems. I an such a good and well-behaved southern boy. My foster mom says that I am not quite totally housebroken, I am a work in progress but I am crate trained. I love going outside numerous times a day and I am well acquainted using a doggie door. I do best if I am taken outside as soon as I wake up in the morning, after eating and occasionally throughout the day and before going to bed for the night. Mom doesn't feed me after the dinner hour so I do not have any accidents during the night. I love to go for walks but could use some leash training. I tolerate being around other dogs and kids. I am not bossy and not a dominant male, but I am aggressive if you give me a little something extra in my food dish (treats, canned food, etc.). I do best if given treats from your hand. My foster mom has not really seen me playing with toys, as I spend my time playing with my fur-brothers. I do not bark much but I will alert you to strange sounds I hear. My foster mom says that I have a strange under-bite but otherwise, I am as healthy as can be. I would be great being in a home with a fenced-in back yard. If you are looking for a companion for yourself or for another fur-baby in your house, then your search is over! I am so easy to fall in love with that I would definitely make someone a great companion! I am 1 year old, 13 pounds of love, neutered, healthy, heartworm negative, UTD on all of my shots.
