Dixie's Story...
Dixie was found together with her sister, Honey, in the Corridor of Cruelty. They seemed disoriented and we assume they were most likely dumped by their owners. Both of them were skinny and very hungry but in overall good spirits. After they got a yummy meal, they started playing silly games with each other and the more we watched them the less likely were we going to leave them behind.

Dixie was born approximately 11/20/2014 and is about 2 years old. She is a cute Pointer mix and weighs around 40 pounds.

Her caretaker at the boarding facility describes her as a very smart and playful dog. She already knows how to catch the ball and return it for a treat. They are currently working on basic commands and she picks up on it quickly. She also keeps her kennel clean, walks perfectly on leash and seems to be a true people pleaser.

Dixie and her sister Honey are not very fond of other dogs yet, but they are making progress. Can you imagine what it must have been like for these two girls to be left behind and having to fend for themselves in an area with many other stray dogs roaming around? They do love each other and it would be such a blessing to get them adopted together.

We are sadden to see Dixie stuck in boarding. It is just no place for a young pup to grow up in. She would do great with an active family or as an only pet. Unless, of course, you would consider adopting her sister Honey as well.

**This dog is with Corridor Rescue in Houston, Texas but is available for transport to most major US and Canadian cities via United Airlines PetSafe for an additional $275. A customs fee may apply at Canadian airports. Ground transportation to Colorado is available for $75, and several locations in the northeastern US for $175.

We are a street dog rescue in Houston, Texas seeking to place rescued dogs in loving homes across the US and Canada. Our region has more homeless animals than homes, so we look outside of our area for adopters.

The adoption fee of $200 covers spay, microchip and current vaccines.

Please apply to adopt or foster Honey online at www.corridorrescue.org.
Direct inquiries to: adopt@corridorrescue.org.

Thank you for considering a rescued former street dog for your next family member!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Dixie, a Pittsburgh Pointer dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Pointer for sale in Pittsburgh, or seeking a Pointer dog from a breeder in Pittsburgh.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Pittsburgh already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Pittsburgh breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Pointer breeders who help with Pointer rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Pittsburgh paves the way for another one to be saved.
