The most notable thing about Chance is his ears. They are very expressive, and communicate with a language all their own. One goes up, both go down, both pop up, one goes down. It is like a little private ballet happening on the top of his head. He is about a medium energy level. He'll like a good walk or a play session in the yard. When he is really happy about something, he does a little bunny hop, making his ears all the more appropriate. Outside of his ears, Chance is a good-natured fella who likes treats and walks and all of the good dog stuff. He waits patiently for treats, which is pretty impressive in the shelter environment, and he doesn't mess his kennel. He is already naturally polite, but Chance is also in the Total Obedience Program. The Total Obedience Program (TOP) is modelled after the AKC's Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test. As a TOP dog, Chance has a personalized training plan and works with a volunteer trainer several times a week to help him learn the skills to become the best dog he can be! He is learning skills like sit and down, walking nicely on leash, sitting calmly when approached by strangers or other dogs, staying in a sit or down until told 'free,' and coming when called. Once Chance successfully completes all the skills on his training plan he will be considered TOP Dog Ready! Chance is working hard to become a wonderful pet and as a part of APA's Total Obedience Program you can work with APA staff to continue to build a training relationship with Chance after adoption and master all the TOP dog skills together.
