Join our amazing supporters, like Justin Theroux, in the #SavingPetsChallenge to help Austin Pets Alive! help even more animals just like Chance - who was lucky enough to become friends with Justin on a recent visit to APA!. Besides being super-smart, the most notable feature about Chance is his ears. They're very expressive and communicate with a language all their own. One goes up, both go down, both pop up, one goes down - it's like a little private ballet happening on the top of his head! When Chance is really happy about something, he does a little bunny hop, making his ears all the more appropriate. Chance is a good-natured fella who likes treats and walks and all of the good dog stuff. And when you sit down next to him, he leans on you, then kinds of melts into your lap. Not only is he super-affectionate, but he also waits patiently for treats, which is pretty impressive in the shelter environment. Already naturally polite, Chance also just passed his TOP Dog test. The Total Obedience Program is modelled after the AKC's Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test. As a TOP dog, Chance had a personalized training plan and worked with a volunteer trainer several times a week to help him learn skills like sit and down, walking nicely on leash, sitting calmly when approached by strangers or other dogs, staying in a sit or down until told 'free,' and coming when called. As a part of APA's Total Obedience Program you can work with APA staff to continue to build a training relationship with Chance after adoption and master all the TOP dog skills together.
