28# Rat terrier mix, loves people and dogs after appropriate intros, no cats or kids who tease her. Needs a doggy door.

D.B. came to us as a baby in really bad shape. We're not quite sure how she got that way, but she was paralyzed and unable to do much of anything beyond laying in your lap on her blankie. Her foster dad immediately fell in love with this throwaway baby and built her a set of wheels so she could get around on her own. D.B. took to her new ride quickly, and to everyone's surprise, she started to twitch her legs within the first few days. Her progress was rapid and the twitches turned into real movement, then into being able to support her own weight. Her wobbly, drunken gait was a joy to see! Within a few months, D.B.'s paralysis was all but forgotten and she today she trots around like a normal dog, getting into all and sundry mischief as her Rat Terrier appearance would suggest. D.B. loves kids and other dogs, but her terrier nature comes to the forefront when it comes to cats and cage animals, so she's a dedicated No Cat kinda gal.

D.B. has one quirk left over from her paralysis, she sometimes drops poop pellets if she's not let out on a schedule. She is housebroken and she does know to take herself outside, but we think she may not have 100% ability to contain her droppings when she really has to go. She does really well with the back door left open, so we feel her perfect home would have a fenced yard with a doggie door so she can take herself out for a potty when she needs to.

We knew taking on a paralyzed baby was going to be a challenge to place, so we're overjoyed that she's made a nearly 100% recovery. She's a joyful little companion who loves to go on adventures and adores a good lap warming session at the end of the day. She's an excellent bed dog and has fostered more puppies and young dogs than we can count. Her foster dog loves her very much, but the cats were in the home first so D.B. sadly has to find a home of her own without kitties in residence. Think this head-turner is the beauty for you? Our adoption fee is $225. This covers spay/neuter, microchip, microchip registration, all age appropriate vaccines, and any needed vet care.

Our Adoption Process...

Adoption Approval Process for South of the Bully

• An Adoption Application must be completed and approved. We call and check vet references to make sure any current pets are up to date with vaccinations and check length of time under vet care. We review all their current pets and ask questions about their temperament to make sure the dog they want to adopt would be a good fit.

• If a dog has been chosen, a meet and greet is arranged if requested AFTER the application is approved. If they have other pets, we also like them to meet at this time, if possible.

• The final step is a home visit. If the home visit is approved the potential adopters can begin their 14 day trial adoption period. Our adoption fee is $195 which includes spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccinations and microchip. If for some reason the dog isn’t a fit in their home we refund $95 of the adoption fee within the 14 day trial period. This is all listed in our Adoption Contract.

• We offer training support and resources for the lifetime of the dog once adopted. Our contract states that if for any reason they cannot continue to provide care for one of our dogs that it be returned to our rescue.
