Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Chika is a 23 pound two-year-old, black and tan female Shiba Inu. She was surrendered for reactivity issues especially on-leash with other dogs and issues with food and guests visiting. Chika has made immense progress while with DC SIR. We are 100% science-based humane force-free training and our progress is based on the skillful implementation of learning theory. This is why we require training contracts for many of our behavior issues rescues. No dog is 'cured' and will require competent adopters to continue a successful training program with a competent trainer.
Chika has been living in a multidog foster home. She is able to play, eat, sleep, and train with multiple dogs in the same room. However, we feel she needs to be in an only dog home so that her adopters can continue to focus on her behavior issues one on one. Chika loves to play with other friendly dogs and will do well having structured play dates with friendly dogs to continue her positive experiences.
Chika has done great on leash passing other dogs, however, the issue with previous owners occurred in a busy apartment complex. Chika is currently in a residential area and isn't in small spaces with other dogs. So if the applicant is in an apartment, they should consider spacious entry/exit until she is desensitized to walking by strange dogs.
Chika has not shown any people aggression whatsoever in her training. She does at times exhibit OCD behavior and will circle the kitchen table. We have been using relation techniques and distraction to redirect this behavior along with supporting her gut health. She has also made great progress in this area.
Chika will have a training contract for her adoption
