CAN YOU BE THIS SWEET DOG’s HERO?
Winnie suffered a tragic (based on her reaction) loss when her elderly owner died. That is how she landed in Memphis Animal Services. Discovered there by Director Lisa, Winnie was transferred to Real Good Dog Rescue.
Winnie had a rough go of it for the first few weeks in rescue as she grieved her beloved owner’s death. Her deeply experienced foster mom had never seen a dog so bereaved. But as with most things, time has been a gentleman to sweet Winnie.
In addition to the burden of her grief, Winnie came into rescue with a bad ear infection. Once this was treated, Winnie clearly felt better. However, it was then noted that Winnie is blind in her right eye but does see light/shadow in her left. It does not slow her down one bit from her explorations.
Fast forward to now. Winnie has adapted to her foster home quite well. She is eating like a champ. Her spaniel nose loves to explore all the smells of the back yard (supervised so she does not get lost/trapped due to her impaired sight). Winnie loves to take leisurely walks on lead—you serving as HER seeing eye person.
Winnie likes some lap time and cuddle time, but enjoys exploring her surroundings, too. Sometimes she is too busy to give you extra pets! LOL. If you are needy….Winnie is not your gal!
Best of all, Winnie play bows to engage others in play when she sees a taller shadow! How do we know this? Well, the little dogs in her foster home get little reaction, but the taller dogs get a whole hearted response.
It is ALL JOY to see this sweet little dog enjoy life again.
Winnie is special needs because she is a Senior (a busy household would stress her) and her vision is impaired. If you have room in your heart to love this Little Old Lady for the rest of her life, I assure you, your life will be better for the Love of Winnie.

The ideal home for this Real Good Dog will have a secure fenced yard. A solid history of excellent vet care for current or previous pets is required. Preference will be given to applicants who have specific breed experience.

Please visit www.realgoodrescue.com to submit an electronic application if you are interested in adopting this or any other Real Good Dog.

We adopt dogs from Memphis Animal Shelter when we can. The shelter has an 83% euthanasia rate, one of the highest in the country. Unfortunately, any dog coming from Memphis Animal Shelter, and most other shelters for that matter, will have been in contact with contagious illness. Even though the dogs have been in foster care and appear to be in good health, they may become stressed when changing environments and exhibit signs and symptoms of illness. If you have other pets, they need to be up to date on vaccines before bringing a shelter dog into your home. We will take the adopted animal back, but we are not responsible for your other animal's vet care. We always disclose where the dogs have come from. Please ask for any information about the dogs and exercise due caution if you have immunocompromised animals.
