My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hans and Greta are strikingly handsome/beautiful bonded siblings who were live-trapped together during a bitterly cold snap last January. They were to be put back out into the cold as TNR cats (‘trap, neuter, and release,’ note their tipped ears). Their current foster mom could not allow that, however.

Although they were extremely scared when first brought in, they have never been aggressive. Since being with their foster mom they’ve learned that being petted feels good, playing with wand toys is great fun, and having regular food, comfy beds, and cat trees is as good as it gets.

Although they look very similar, they have different personalities. Greta was the first one to enjoy being petted and she loves being brushed too. Hans was resistant at first but he also learned that being petted is enjoyable, although he’s much more interested in food and playing.

Hans can be assertive and “talk” to you while impatiently waiting for his food. Greta has a more quiet, cute voice. They know their names, so while in bed, their foster mom can call them and Hans will plop down on her left side, and Greta will lie down on her right side to be petted. Greta has always loved the tunnels section of cat trees, it’s where she feels secure. Pretty much anyone can pet her while she’s in the tunnel, even people she’s never met before. Hans is more outgoing and will come out to get a treat presented by visitors. Greta stays back more, she will often come out although at more at a distance.

Hans and Greta will need a forever adopter with patience and understanding. Their current foster home and “mom” are the only ones they’ve known. Once they adjust to their new environment and realize they can trust the person taking care of them, they’ll become relaxed, happy cats. But it will take them time to adjust to a new environment with new smells, a new person, etc.: their world will have been turned upside down.

Note: they are not feral cats: they enjoy human companionship and love all the fun and comfy things a real home can provide. But they were likely born outside, and may always be skittish with fast movements or sudden loud noises (i.e., something getting knocked down or falling).

If you are expecting cats who will easily adapt within a few days, or perhaps weeks, these two will not be a match for you. To overcome their fears, this elegant and special pair will need a patient, persistent, and understanding love, which most likely comes from an experienced cat person.

They are extremely endearing and fun. Hans is always up for playing with a wand toy. Greta is too, but she is more interested in being petted and brushed than Hans. Hans is much more the boy with lots of energy for playing and absolutely loves if you use a wand toy to play with him. He will follow you all over the house chasing it. They both love cat trees and spend much of their time in the cat trees or on the bed. They lounge in a cat tree in front of a window to see what’s going on outside.

Hans and Greta have been neutered/spayed, vaccinated, dewormed, and are estimated to be about 1 ½ - 2 years old. They are bonded and will be adopted as an indoor pair only. Absolutely no declawing. If you need to know why, please ask. Cat trees and plenty of dedicated scratching surfaces are a must.
