Ruby is a 3 year old female German Shepherd/Siberian Husky mix that found herself dumped by her family at the local shelter at 3 years old.
The change from living with her family to going to the shelter and then to foster care shook her up pretty badly and for the first few weeks she was fairly unhappy. Ruby had a hard time settling in and getting used to a whole new life and figuring out how she fit in with her new environment. Because of this, Ruby needs a home that will give her the time and effort to help her settle in and become a part of the family, knowing that at first she will be stressed from yet another change.
Ruby really needs a home where she can be an only dog. She has moments where she is great with a very submissive male who is smaller than her but it is not only consistent. Her foster's best guess is that she was not properly socialized while she was a puppy and now she is not entirely sure how to play with other dogs so when it gets too energetic for her she shuts down and gets defensive.
Ruby is also in a foster home with cats and is very cat curious. She will follow them around but backs away when they give her the sign that they have had enough. However, it doesn't mean that she won't begin to follow them around 5 minutes later though.
Ruby is house and crate trained. She does need to be crated when her foster leaves the house, otherwise she gets very stressed and will paw at the door non stop. She does not like to be alone, and will also repeat the behavior if left outside in the yard alone. Ruby really just wants to be with her people.
She is able to walk on a leash but would not make the best running partner since new sounds tend to spook her and land her right between her foster mom's feet.
Ruby would love a quiet household that will commit to helping her gain her confidence back after being so taken aback by being abandoned and will require a 6ft privacy fenced yard for her safety and to give her a place to work out some of her excess energy.
Her adoption fee is $225
