Ava's Story...
Ava is currently living in a foster home in Madison, Wisconsin.

Ava is a sweet 3 year old, 10 pound, Dachshund mix, with a sleek red coat. She's a little timid at first, but once she warms up, she is full of love, and obviously wants nothing more than to be loved in return. Ava gets along fine with other small dogs, but is intimidated by larger ones. She loves to run and play, especially with her 12 year old 2 legged foster brother, who has taught her how to play tug of war. She is fine with cats, but enjoys giving them chase much more than they would prefer. She is house trained and will stay in a crate during the day, but insists on sleeping in the bed cuddled with her person, under the covers, doubling as a bed warmer at night. Ava enjoys hanging out and making new friends at the dog park, or snuggling on the couch and stealing kisses.

Our process includes an approved application, reference checks, a home visit, once approved, a meet and greet with the dog. Please note that preference is given to adopters in Wisconsin, but out of state applications will be considered. Adoption fee is $250.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Ava, a Fort Atkinson Dachshund dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Dachshund for sale in Fort Atkinson, or seeking a Dachshund dog from a breeder in Fort Atkinson.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Fort Atkinson already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Fort Atkinson breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Dachshund breeders who help with Dachshund rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Fort Atkinson paves the way for another one to be saved.
