August 2017 update- Panda is currently in a boot camp with our behaviorist. She has been exhibiting some aggression to the other pets in her foster home and is still having issues meeting strangers. Her circling behavior has all but disappeared, but some additional behavioral issues have surfaced. We hope she can make some significant progress in boot camp.
Happy 2017 buddies!! “New year new you,” “365 new chances,” we’ve all heard it over and over again this past month! A brand new year full of resolutions, improvements, opportunities, and change; a brand new year to make you a better you!! Just like us humans, our pretty little Panda is striving to succeed in 2017 and is already actively working to become the best Panda she can be!! But you see, she needs a little extra help from YOU, and is in need of a FOREVER HOME!
Simply stunning, just 7 years young, and perfectly petite at 20lbs, Panda was surrendered to Boston Buddies by her owner over the Christmas season. Prior to her arrival in her foster home over the holidays, Panda had lived her entire life outdoors, completely deprived of and longing for human love, affection, and guidance. As a result, Panda has been exhibiting some behavioral issues in her foster home; behaviors such as resource guarding (she doesn’t like to share her foster momma, but who can blame the poor girl— it’s the only human that’s embraced her in years) as well as some compulsive behaviors like tail chasing and spinning in circles. Fortunately, Panda scored a fantastic foster mom who has actively, patiently, and lovingly begun taking Panda to see a behavioral specialist (provided by Boston Buddies), Dr. Patrick Melese, to help nip these correctable bad behaviors of Panda’s in the tail right away! Panda has already had a three hour session with Dr. Melese (based in San Diego) and her foster mom has even started implementing his suggestions into Panda’s daily routine. Panda has been placed on Prozac to help alleviate her anxiety and is learning to better understand her role and place in the family by following the protocol “nothing in life is free.” Panda is also getting the hang of crate training and enjoying a more controlled walk on her Gentle Leader harness. Setting aside a few behavioral complications, Panda is sharp as a tack and has some tricks up her sleeve, and will proudly “sit,” and “wait,” when asked. Panda can even give you a “high five” after an awesome session with Dr. Melese!!
Panda is looking for a home that is willing to work with our behaviorist, and help our perfectly imperfect Panda shine bright! If you’re looking to make a difference in the new year, if you’re wanting to make you a better you, then opening your heart and your home to our precious Panda is certainly your chance! Not only is it good for your soul (YOU are making a difference), it’s good for your brain (learning valuable training tips to help you with any dog you currently have or come across down the road)—it’s a win win situation if you ask us!!
Panda is perfectly healthy; heart worm and fecal tested (both negative), microchipped, spayed, and fully vaccinated. Panda will persevere—already pushing herself out of her comfort zone, with a determined mind, and an infectiously sweet soul, Panda is just in need of some human patience, some human guidance, and heaps of human love. Panda is willing and so ready to take on the remaining 334 days of 2017 to become the absolute BEST PANDA she can be!!
