Facts about Aden

  • Breed: Chihuahua Mix
  • Color: Tan/Yellow/Fawn
  • Age: Young
  • Size: Small 25 lbs (11 kg) or less
  • Sex: Male
ADEN is a Texas native now living in Illinois … and he says – “It’s cold up here!” If you believe that “good things come to those who wait”, then ADEN is for you! He loves to walk (except when it’s cold), and is good on his leash. He walks well alone or with a doggy pal. He loves to run around the yard with his canine foster friends, wrestle in the house, and is tougher than his small frame seems. He likes squeaker toys, pieces of hard bone, chew sticks, TREATS, & a little bit of cracker on his kibble. His favorite place is “on top of his crate or windowsill”. While he seems comfortable IN his crate (and waits quietly for human to come home) he likes to be “up”, maybe to help him see the world from a higher angle.

This adorable guy looks like a large chihuahua mix, weighing in at 18 pounds, and is estimated to be about 2 years old. Aden came with a scarred leg: from what we don’t know. When he first arrived in our care, he was scared and unsure about new people, but with a little patience – plus a few COLD walks & 2 tasty meals a day – he’s learned to trust, and now loves to be held and snugged. He is now his foster mom's "bestest bud” – and he will be for you, too. He will need to take some time to get to know you and trust you, and then he’ll be your best friend for life. He’s a little shadow that follows his foster mom wherever she goes, and he’s happiest sitting on the couch for TV, right there next to his person, and happy to snug and give/get kisses and hugs.

Because Aden needs some patience, a gentle hand, an understanding heart and a tame environment without a lot of people coming and going, he will do best in a home without small children. For teens and adults, he’ll be your best companion.

Aden's adoption fee of $310 includes vet exam, heartworm test, DAPP (distemper combo) combination, Bordetella vaccination, Rabies vaccination, heartworm preventative, routine deworming, flea/tick preventative, microchip and neuter.

About Adopt-A-Pet, Inc.

About Our Shelter...

ADOPT-A-PET is an all-volunteer non-profit animal shelter/adoption agency dedicated to saving the lives of lost, abandoned or otherwise homeless dogs, cats, puppies and kittens and placing them into permanent, loving homes.

ADOPT-A-PET provides a safe refuge and a second chance for unclaimed animals from various municipal pounds and, space permitting, accepts other homeless, neglected or injured animals from their rescuers.

ADOPT-A-PET was founded in 1981, and has since saved the lives of over 15,000 animals. All animals at Adopt-A-Pet are found permanent loving homes. Animals remain with us for as long as it takes to find them a suitable permanent new home.

ADOPT-A-PET does not own a shelter facility. All of our animals are boarded at co-operating animal hospitals or in volunteer foster homes until they are adopted by their new families.

ADOPT-A-PET provides all necessary medical care for every animal. All animals are health-checked, vaccinated, treated for medical problems and spayed/neutered.

ADOPT-A-PET is available for educational speaking engagements to schools and community groups in Chicago or the suburbs to promote proper pet care, compassion for animals, and the importance of spaying and neutering.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Adopt-A-Pet does not own a shelter facility. Because all of our animals are in private foster homes, they are shown by appointment only, after an application has been submitted.

Occasional public weekend adoption events are posted on the Home Page of our website: www.adoptapet-il.org

Our Adoption Process...

Our adoption process: Adopt-A-Pet does not own a shelter facility. Because all of our animals are in private foster homes, they are shown by appointment, after an application has been submitted.

How to start the process: Contact us by email or phone. An adoption counselor will return your message within 1-2 days. You will be asked to fill out an application that will ask for personal information about your family, your home and about the kind of pet you're looking for. Vet references, personal references and landlord information (if applicable) is required. You can also download an application from our website. Once you return the application, an adoption counselor will call you back for a more thorough interview, again within 1-2 days. Sometimes it may take a little longer as we're all volunteers and sometimes it gets very busy. Assuming the pet you're interested in appears to be a match for you, a meeting will then be set up. For some animals, a home check may be required. If an adoption takes place, you will be asked to sign a contract and pay an adoption fee. Each animal's individual adoption fee is posted in its description on our websites.
