My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Kole is a very handsome, all-black German Shepherd Dog.   He's young -- just over a year old (born on 10/30/15).   His sleek, glossy coat is stunning.

He's on the small side for a male (around 60 pounds).  We expect him to fill out over the next year or so as he grows into his body.  His size, energy, and athletic physique would make him an excellent candidate to train for agility competition.

He is a very loving, sweet boy who really appreciates attention, time, and kindness.  He is also typical of GSD adolescents:  high energy, playful, and goofy.  He adores rough-and-tumble play with other confident dogs in his foster home, and he is also good with the tiny dog he lives with.  However, he's not good around submissive dogs, so he's not a "dog park" kind of dog.

Kole is already house-trained and knows how to use a doggie door.   He is also crate-trained.  He's learning house manners in his foster home too.  Kole needs an adopter who is committed to building on the obedience training he's started, as he's still learning (and wants to learn).  He's food motivated and wants to please, so he's a joy to work with.

Breed experience would be very desirable, as adolescent GSDs tend to test boundaries and see how much they can get away with at this age.  Good leadership is critical to shape any young GSD into the best dog it can be.   Without that, Kole is likely to get into mischief.

Kole recently tested negative for heartworm disease and has been kept on prevention while in rescue.

On the adoption application, please identify the professional trainer or class you plan to use  -- we strongly recommend researching this before seeking to adopt a dog.
