My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Toby is Currently with Freedom Dog Rescue, Looking for his Furever Home
www.freedomdogrescue.ca

Name: TOBY

Age: 5 years (approx.)
Breed: Shar Pei, German Short Haired Pointer
~Is your dog good with other dogs: He seems okay with most dogs when we walk on leash, has become a bit aggressive at off-leash park, growling and being dominant, may have some toy aggression.
~Is your dog good with cats: Respectful of cats.
~Is your dog good with kids: Has demonstrated that he is good with kids. Has been exposed to children ranging from 12 months-16 years.
~Is your dog house trained: Yes
~Is your dog crate trained: Not yet. Have been encouraging him to explore crate, using treats to encourage him, but he has not yet been closed in crate.
~Does your dog have any special needs: Sensitive skin, is currently on a low-ingredient diet which has helped with itchy paws; recommend he wear coat and booties as his feet are sensitive to salt and cold and he gets cold easily.

~Does your dog have any or display any aggression (toys, food, people): toys with other dogs, doesn't like to be picked up, or moved (will growl), has become more comfortable with having feet touched to put boots on, and is okay with belly rubs but doesn't like to be towelled off on his belly, back paws when he comes in from outside.

~Is your dog playful: Very. He loves squeaky toys, chewing toys, his food/treat ball.

~Does your dog like to snuggle: Yes

~Does your dog know basic commands: Yes. He knows off (as in to get off couch), sit, down, can get in and out of the car.

~Does your dog know any special tricks: None demonstrated.

~Does your dog like to go on walks: Yes. He is quite strong and needs to learn how to loose leash walk as he can pull quite a bit. At first, he seemed like a couch potato, but now he demonstrates lots of energy and has been receiving three good walks a day. Might make a good running partner in the future. He has been to off-leash enclosed parks, mostly no issue with the exception of some growling/aggression toward another dog.

~Does your dog have any fears: Apprehensive of interior stairs (used cheese to teach/encourage him); separation anxiety demonstrated by barking while people are away from home.

~Does your dog have any unique traits you have noticed whether in personality or physically: very food motivated, intelligent/trainable, sweet personality

~What are the 3 first words that come to mind when you think of your dog: smart, stubborn, eager

~In a short paragraph Please provide any other details or a brief overview of your foster dog:

Toby loves food, treats, his food/treat ball and squeaky toys. He is a polite boy who sits and patiently waits to go out for walks and to figure out what is happening next in the daily routine. He likes to rest in his bed or on the floor and has been trained to not be on the couch despite it being one of his favourite hangouts. He is responsive and eager to please, but also can be a bit stubborn about not coming when called and running upstairs when he knows it is time for his people to leave. He enjoys walks, has become more comfortable in the car, is good with strangers coming to the house, is good with the resident cat, comfortable around children. He has shown some anxiety when his people are away in the form of barking, and therefore may not be suitable for attached housing. Toby is a bright boy who would benefit from obedience training to improve his on-leash walking, recall, and to expand his knowledge of commands.
