My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Howdy ya’ll I’m Nugget! I’m a one-year old male German Shorthair Pointer…..fancy huh? Not to toot my own horn but I am extremely handsome! I mean look at my stance! I am from KY, where I was surrendered to a shelter after I had been found shot in the rear leg. Don’t fret ladies, I’m fine. I had surgery to close the wound and I healed perfectly!
Now, I did come from a rough background. I was beaten, so it takes time for me to warm up to people, especially men. However, after I learn to trust I am very affectionate. Since I was an abused dog I will require some special care. I lost my ability to trust people and be a dog in my old life, so I will need a forever home that is patient, kind and understanding of that. Most of all, I need a forever hooman that won’t give up on me and I in turn will be your best friend. Some things to keep in mind about me are- I need you to go slow when putting a leash on me, but once I’m leashed up I do pretty good at not pulling. I’m pretty scared of getting in the car so I will need some help. But I am getting better and my foster mom is confident I can overcome this eventually. I have had some potty accidents in the house, but if you take me outside quick after I get out of my crate then I’m good to go. I stay in the crate during the day and at night when my foster hoomans are away. However, I do like going outside on a lunch break…. Hint-hint. I will want to be close to you since I didn’t have that and it’s what I’ve always longed for. I hope you don’t mind 
I still do have puppy in me (remember I’m a youngin’ still), so I do need to be reminded of my manners (walking on the table was not my proudest moment, I thought it was normal). I promise I can learn so don’t walk away from me just yet! I also love belly rubs and other dogs. My foster family sometimes takes me to the dog park but I’m still cautious. Oh….and I sometimes forget my size and since I want to play I shouldn’t be in a house with cats or other small dogs. I don’t want any little creatures getting stepped on.
I look forward to meeting you and showing you that despite of adversity and neglect, I am still extremely loving and kind and want nothing more than a loving family of my own.
