Major is a special boy with special needs.  He was rescued from a high kill shelter in GA, where he sat in a corner trembling out of fear and confusion.  Poor Major had been hit by a car, and as a result has a broken rear leg that has healed broken, and sadly lost vision in both his eyes due to the trauma which caused the retinas to detach.  He has been to the eye doctor, and the orthopedist, and unfortunately nothing can be done to save his vision (he has a small amount left in one eye but eventually that will fade as well).  In regards to his leg, he does use it at times, but because the break healed broken, surgery would be extremely painful and not a guaranteed success, so we are in the process of having a custom removable orthodic made for him (by a company called Oorthopet in Colorado) that will act as a cast on his leg, and provide that leg some support so he can use it more often.  The orthodic is in production now based on a mold that was made by our vet, and hopefully will help Major with that leg.  While we aren’t sure it will work, we made the investment in it in the hopes of providing Major a more functional leg.

Despite all the pain and suffering he has endured in his short life, Major is a happy go lucky boy, who loves everyone!  He loves to play with toys, other dogs, he even likes cats and of course loves all people.  At his foster home, he las learned how to manage the steps, and get around the home without a problem.  He currently lives with 7 dogs, one cat and two humans, and gets along great with everyone.  Because he is only about 2 years old, he still has a lot of energy, and his leg injury doesn’t slow him down or prevent him from being very active.  As a result of being blind though, he does get a little scared when he doesn’t know where he is, or is without anyone he knows to comfort him.  Being blind is fairly new for him, so he is still adjusting!

Major desperately needs a loving home that understands his special needs, and will provide him the love and happy life he deserves!

About Castoff Pet Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

The mission of Castoff Pet Rescue is to save and nurture homeless dogs; to match companion animals with loving, life-long homes; to foster responsible pet care; to control overpopulation in our community through spay/neuter programs; and to assist other shelters and rescue groups in any endeavor to benefit the animals. We believe that the same kindness, compassion, and generosity we extend to our two-legged neighbors should be given to our four-legged friends because they are not able to speak for themselves.
