WHY IS THIS DOG IN NEED??- This little fellow was picked up as a discard on kijiji this past week, She is need of alot of help to get healthy. We have a recently surrendered dog that just spent Monday and Tuesday hospitalized in critical care

WHERE IS THIS DOG NOW ?- she is in foster care with other dogs.

**ALL ABOUT KARLEY **
We would like the seller of "Karley" the 4 lb Chihuahua to contact us

We understand that prior to the person who surrendered her to us, that she was last owned by a couple,
supposedly from Kincardine area, that posted her on facebook last May,
and subsequently delivered her to Goderich for a
$50 fee to cover the cost of her food

The buyer thinks that the seller said she was vetted in Ripley, Wingham or Mildmay
She got no paperwork
Buyer did not even know how the dog's name was actually spelt
The buyer did not have a record of who she bought her from either
She did know the couple had possibly broken up and decided to give her up
We took her in January 19th to prevent her from ending up in a mill

We knew we had to vacc deworm chip and booster and most likely spay

UPDATE:
We did not know she needed dental until yesterday, as she was too nervous to be touched on intake, and we wanted to gain her trust before stressing her
As many of you know last Thursday Karley went to a foster
She seemed to settle in fine

Unfortunately early Friday, about 2 a.m., she had some accidents in her crate in the night and vomitted - she had not done that in the 6 days i had her in my care
We wondered if she overindulged in her food or suddenly had an allergy to it

Her foster had a family emergency come up that night and needed to tend to that
I drove back to Goderich to get her Friday
She had a few accidents in her crate Friday night
Saturday morning I gave her a bath and no sooner than i finished and she had diarhea
I had to go look for a missing dog that day
A trustworthy foster offered to take her to foster as I drove thru the area to look for the missing dog

She went to foster late afternoon
Despite treatment for her belly - That night she began passing blood in her stool
Sunday night Pam reported she was not eating much and had a lot of blood passing now
She went in to the closest vet to the foster home
She had iv, injections, bloodwork and metranidizole
She had stopped eating
Despite treatment she still had diarhea tonight
.
She is on a different food now in hopes of it soothing her system
There is no diagnosis
Karley is however out of the hospitalization unit tonight
The bill is just shy of $900 for her exam and hospitalization from yesterday till today
We have no answers yet but we found out that she is not 22 Months as the last buyer had understood

She gave me an old rabies tag that Karley came with
It says 2013 #00916 from Eldale vet in Elmira
I contacted them yesterday - they only saw her once and transferred her info to Heritage Animal Hospital
Heritage could not trace her as we had no tag, or client name or info from seller to buyer

I asked Eldale to contact Heritage in hopes of helping them identify this dog so we can get some useful info to help Karley

One thing i learned is not only is she double the age buyer was under the impression she was - but also that she has dental issues
In addition to whatever else this issue is

Some people dont seem to bother getting pup boostered beyond initial vaccs.
Many do not deworm.
Many do not chip.
Many do not spay.
Many do not do dental maintenance.
We see this all the time.

We do this all the time.

We now have a $120& parvo test as that could not be ruled out. It was a necessity thanks to no history being provided.

Today we hope that we may have made some headway in the right direction for trying to find out an actual date of birth, the actual registered name, if she ever got vaccinated with combo, if she was spayed

We are waiting to hear if vet to vet any of this useful info was divulged, for the sake of Karley

We do not care who her owners were we just want her history

If any of her original owners could do us the courtesy of sending us an email to petrescue@hurontel.on.ca and releasing her most recent records to our treating vet (contact me for their email) this could mean the difference between her suffering or not, especially while we have no idea what else to do while we wait for lab results

She weighed 4 LBS on intake
She has now lost 3/4 of 1 LB

Karley was booked on intake to be fixed Feb 15th

If you know this dog PLEASE do not make her go thru any unnecessary care - do the right thing and release her records so that we can rule out issues without bankrupting the rescue while we try to get to the bottom of this mystery ailment

Thank you

Pics shown are from intake to most recent

Her ears raised as she got more comfortable and trusting

More to come as we learn / confirm this dogs needs.

We welcome your application for consideration .

*** HOW IT WORKS - ADOPTION INFORMATION ****
Please read ** ALL** the information provided below on the process to
save time and facilitate the process in a smooth manner.

The adoption fee does NOT cover the cost of vetting or supplies for these animals - If you cannot afford the adoption fee
(that is a fraction of actual REDUCED VETTING expenses incurred) then you should reconsider adopting.
These animals deserve forever homes, good food, regular vet care, and emergency care as needed.
Pets should never be euthanized by their owners simply based on financial consideration when something goes wrong.
