My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Cowgirl is a beautiful black & tan Dobergirl, about three years old. Right now she weighs about 60 lbs, but she is very skinny and we are trying to put some more meat on her bones! She is a very quiet girl, shy at first, but she soaks up your attention once you have gained her trust. She has natural ears and a docked tail.Cowgirl is very sweet and has a docile disposition. Her “velcro factor” is low for a Doberman - she will follow you around the house but prefers to lie on a soft bed in the same or nearby room as you, rather than needing to be right next to you. We have not observed her around small children, but we are told she is good with children. She is not food aggressive, but she prefers not to have anyone too close while she is eating. Cowgirl does well with other dogs, and became very energetic and playful with our male Doberman after a short adjustment time. She is quick and agile, and will need open space to run and jump. She sort of likes nylabones and stuffingless toys, but she has not shown much interest in balls, squeakers, or other toys. She has occasionally been a bit possessive with our female dog when it comes to sharing toys and people’s attention. We have not seen her around cats. Her ideal placement would be in a home with a friendly male dog. Cowgirl needs to learn all basic commands, which will first involve learning to trust her owners. For example, we have not been able to teach her “sit” yet, and she resists even gentle downward pressure on her hips. She will need you to keep a bathroom break schedule for her until she learns how to tell you when she needs to go outside. Sometimes it seems she is fearful that if she goes outside, she will not be allowed back in, particularly in this cold weather. She needs tasty toys to chew, and reminders that chewing shoes and wooden things isn’t good. She goes into a crate reluctantly, but without trouble. She is good on a leash. Cowgirl is very happy to be showered with love and praise, and quick to make human attachments. She needs a special someone who has the time, patience, and gentle leadership to teach her so many things that a lot of other three year old dogs already know. Could you be her special someone?
