When my foster mom found me at a high-kill shelter, and saw how sweet and gentle I was, she couldn't leave me behind. It is clear, from the several large calluses on my legs and hips, and my chewed up ears, that I have had a rough life.

That doesn't stop me from loving to go on walks- I am awesome on a leash and my pace is pretty slow. My 82 year old grandma can even walk me! I am pretty laid back and mellow, but I also get short bursts of energy during which I enjoy playing with my foster brothers. It is pretty funny, as I back up into them and wiggle my butt to get attention. Mostly, though, I am content just to lay around with my humans, soaking in the sunlight.

My kitty foster brothers and sisters delight me, too. I really like to play with them if they let me. Sometimes I chase them, but I am always gentle if they let me catch them.

At 64 pounds, I am very food motivated and have a good appetite, although I will sit and wait patiently for you to feed me and I take treats very gently.

I am a smart girl and learned to use the doggie door from watching my brother go through on my very first day! It seems that I am hard of hearing (although not fully deaf), so I do take cues from my brothers about what is going on, and look to my mom for some hand signals, which I am now learning.

At approx. six years old, and having a rough start in life, I do require some medication to keep me feeling good, so I would need a new family that is willing to make sure that I am cared for.

I am the perfect pet for a senior, or for a less active family who will be home a lot to keep me company, as I love my humans so much!

About Rescue Ridge

About Our Rescue Group...

Rescue Ridge is a 'last-chance' rescue. Staffed 100% through the efforts and donations of volunteers, we find homes for animals that other shelters and people have given up on. Through the kindness of various boarding kennels and foster families, rescued animals are cared for until they find that final family to love them.

Rescue Ridge began by rescuing healthy, beautiful, animals that were slated to be euthanized through no fault of their own. We felt it was unfair, that because their 'humans' had no more use for them, their days were numbered. We have tried to give each and every one of these companions a new lease on life. We rescued dogs, cats, horses and any other animal that we were able to help with our limited resources. And since we have limited space, we are always searching for those willing to help foster these wonderful creatures. We are always happy to provide information on options available to anyone needing to re-home their pet for whatever reason. It is our belief that education regarding pet ownership and its responsibilities is the best hope these companions have. You will have unending rewards when you give a second chance to one of these wonderful friends. They truly are the champions of giving unconditional love.

Volunteer dog walkers needed to walk our dogs. We also need volunteers to socialize our dogs. Must love dogs. Training will be provided. Our facility is located in Freehold, NJ. If you have a few hours a month to volunteer, please contact us at

Our Adoption Process...

Just contact us at, or call us at 732-681-3450, and we will be happy to provide you with an adoption application and, upon review of personal reference checks, vet checks, and possibly home visits, you may be chosen as a permanent home for that special companion. Please note that filling out an application does NOT automatically approve anyone for a specific adoption. We want to assure that the companion and adoptive family are each going to benefit from the adoption, and that it is as permanent an adoption as possible. We ask for help through donations to help cover the costs associated with keeping the companions up-to-date on vaccinations and spay/neuter programs. We request a donation of $100 for cats, and $200 - $400 for dogs, depending on the specific rescue. We are a tax-exempt organization so that any donation you make to Rescue Ridge is tax deductible, and all costs go directly to all of the animals we rescue.
