Here's what the humans have to say about me:
WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THIS PET
Sammy is just a very sweet, friendly little dog. He has been through a lot of changes since coming into our care and has continued to show himself to be an accepting, patient and loving little dog. We believe he is around 2 years old and I do not have his exact weight but it would be 10 lbs or so.
Here is what his foster family had to say:
This little man will definitely find his way into your heart from the very beginning. When he first came to our home he was so shy but every day here he is showing so many changes, so much love he has stored inside that little body for a special someone. If someone is considering to adopt this little man, they need to know that he requires a quiet environment, he likely needs to be in a home without young children. He needs to be with someone who will spend the time to help his confidence grow, to teach him trust and of course, to teach him his basic commands. He needs a hand to pat him, a lap to sit on and a face to kiss.
Sammy is a healthy little guy other than the fact he is under weight…and that should be easy to cure because he has one fine appetite. Sammy is listed as being 2 years old and there is no reason to make us believe differently. This little guy is very shy at first but we have learned that he quite enjoys his squeaky toys…he does this silly little thing where he chases his tail in circles..and he has shown us that he quite enjoys playing with our little dog. He enjoys his rowdy time but he also enjoys his quiet time…lap time. We haven’t really noticed that Sammy sheds…he will allow you to brush him but not real happy about it.
Sammy hasn’t been introduced to small children that we know of but once he gets comfortable around adults he is just fine. This little guy doesn’t have a mean bone in his body..he has shown absolutely no signs of aggressiveness. He does seem very shy when first meeting people…he will shy away and gradually creep his way closer to you…when he is fed, he will stay a distance from you until he is reassured that it is okay to come eat. When you try to pick him up he will back away but once you have him he is fine. This I am sure will end once he feels totally safe in his surroundings. Sammy is being fostered in a home with another small dog and two cats. He enjoys playing with our dog but seems not to really bother with the cats.
Sammy does show signs of anxiety when you leave him. He does not however show any signs of destructive behaviour. He does not like loud voices..this is why we believe a more quiet, settled home would be best for him. Sammy likes his plush squeaky toys, he loves belly rubs and giving kisses and to snuggle up right against you on the sofa or in the bed. He is a real cuddle bug. Sammy doesn’t bark much at all…if our dog barks at someone approaching the door he will bark too but only for a minute or so.
Sammy doesn’t try to steal food but like most dogs, when food is on the table he isn’t too far away. He does not know his basic commands other than “sit” and “no”. Sammy gets taken out at least three times daily as well as bedtime. He has had no accidents in the house at all. Since he has been with us he only gets crated at night ( because of stairs ) and when we are away from the house. He will do his little squeaky cry for about 15 minutes but then he settles. He does very well on a leash. He’s not much for tugging but a little training would be good. He has really never been given the opportunity to try to escape so I’m not sure if he would try to or not. Sammy has only been in the car once and he rode in the lap of the passenger.
Sammy has this little squeak about his voice…like he chats right at you. He just seriously has a way of wiggling right into your heart. He needs a very dedicated family to teach him how good life should and could be. It would be good if he were taken to puppy training to learn his simple commands.
I think Sammy would do best in a more quiet home..another small doggie companion or even adult cats would be good for him I think. Possibly a home with no young children.
If you are seriously interested in adopting this pet, the first step is to go to our main website at http://www.uglymuttsdogrescue.com and submit an application for consideration.
Only those who submit an application will be considered for adoption and only those who have an approved application will have the opportunity to meet the pet in person.
Our aim is to ensure that every pet adopted will meet the wants and desires of their adoptive family and that the family has the ability to meet the dog's needs.
