My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mamacita was found as a stray and we quickly discovered she was pregnant. She was very shy at first, but has opened up beautifully so you can barely tell she wasn't always part of a family. She is basically the all American mutt, energetic, behaved, cuddly, shaggy and adorable. One ear stands up and the other is floppy at all times! If you are looking for a loving, playful, loyal, and affectionate family dog, Mama is your girl. Mamacita definitely has a rescue story, so bear with us...She is worth it!

Mama was not immediately put up for adoption since she had to give birth to her adorable babies, watch over them while they got placed in homes and learn to trust and come out of her shell. She quickly learned how to walk on a leash and trust new people and was spayed, micro-chipped and was given all of her shots. She was ready to be listed for adoption when her foster mom noticed a small tumor on her under side and noticed she wasn't feeling well. Long story short, a local specialty vet/surgeon discovered she had contracted a rare STD from living on the streets. Yes, dogs can get STD's...very rare in the US, but it does happen. The STD had caused the tumor and in order to get rid of it, Mama underwent 7 mild chemo treatments like a champ. Luckily for her, this was discovered and treated so that she went on to undergo a complete recovery. She is now 100% healthy and ready for her new home. With that said, she is very bonded to my family with one 10 year old boy, 2 adults and two other older dogs.

While we would love to keep her ourselves, we have decided that she would make another family very happy and we would love to see if she can get a chance to be adopted into another family where there might be another young dog to play with or at least the ability to socialize and be active. She loves to play with toys and other young dogs that can keep up with her. The older dogs in her current foster environment are 13+/9, so they shut her down fast:( She is still a bit nervous when she sees kids running fast by her, but has been exposed to many small children and if they are slow and gentle with her, she is more than willing to give kisses and sit with them on the couch if they are willing. We have taken her out into the community to the train park, local parks, dog park, etc for socialization purposes. The pictures posted are of her running at the park off leash, chasing birds and tennis balls.

Mama is doggie door trained and has free roam of the house for 10 hours while we are away at work. We have never needed to crate her. She will chew a lego or two if left on the floor while gone every once and while, but is trustworthy for the most part. (She isn't all that sure of the difference between a dog toy and kids toy) She does get onto the couch with us and enjoys sitting with us and on us for hours if allowed. Let me know if you have questions and want to meet this pretty lady.
