Hi my name is Maggie, My foster mom calls me 'magpie,' although I don’t know why. I am at least 12 years old, we didn't really know my true age. I weigh in a full 9 lbs, not much more wet either.  I eat very soft food with water or some broth to help me since I don't have any teeth. I do have some cloudy eyes, but do not have any other known health issues.  I am a little shy so I tend to stay away from   people moving around and loud noises, I get along with pretty much all of my foster sisters. They are dogs big and small, but mom watches me with them so I don’t get hurt. I also live with a cat but she stays away from me and I stay away from her. I am around younger children too but I stay out of their way. I am not mean, nor I don’t growl or bark. I love to be held and cuddled and really love when my back is scratched.  House training is different for me now compared to where I used to live. Mom wants me to potty outside which I don’t understand why, although I do go outside and do my potty when taken there.  I just haven’t gotten the idea to ask to go out. I don’t mean to have accidents but it happens, so I need someone understanding of that too.  I used to live with a lot of dogs before, and that is why I am looking for a new home.  I prefer to get more attention for myself, and hope the many other dogs from my original home, who also went to foster homes, get all the attention they deserve too.

About Boroughs & Beyond Italian Greyhound Rescue (IGCA)

About Our Rescue Group...

We are the national rescue group for the Italian Greyhound Club of America organization. We are an all-volunteer organization with people caring for Italian Greyhounds within their homes rather than in a shelter, giving them a more personal experience and allowing us to know the dogs better in order to ensure a better placement in to a new home. Our national organization places 500-900 Italian Greyhounds annually in almost every state within the US.

Come Meet Our Pets...

If you want to meet our adoptable pets, we will post adoption events on our website regularly. We show adoptable pets at Petco, Petsmart and Pet Supply Plus locations as well as sometimes at street fairs or other adoption events held throughout the area.

Our Adoption Process...

Anyone interested in adopting a dog must submit an adoption application to be considered as a home for one of our adoptable IGs. Once the adoption application is returned we will check references and setup an in-home visit which helps us identify if any particular dog may or may not fit well in your family.

Once an IG is identified for a home, we require an adoption donation which helps us pay for medical costs for the dogs who are in foster care while awaiting their new homes. All dogs are adopted already spayed or neutered (no exceptions), up-to-date on shots (rabies and distemper), given a heartworm test, and other medical issues addressed as determined by a veterinarian.

Upon adoption, we have a simple adoption contract needing signed stating you will provide regular medical care for the Italian Greyhound, get dental cleanings, and allow the dog to live in your home as part of the family. Additionally, if an adoption does not work, you agree to return the dog to rescue and are not allowed to sell or give the dog to another person, animal shelter or rescue organization.
